Best light jacket you'll ever need
This jacket was one of the best purchases I've ever made. It is versatile and effective for its intended purpose - light protection from the elements, good for layering, and EXTREMELY packable. Are you heading out on a 4 am hike but know it'll warm up once you gain some elevation? Looking for cover from the light drizzle when you take your pet outside for a potty? You are covered. The weatherproofing isn't SPECTACULAR, but it will protect you against a spilled pumpkin spiced latte; It isn't super warm on its own, but maybe throw in a fleece middle layer and you'll be fine for a pretty significant range of temp.; The zipper takes a bit of getting used to, but works great 95% of the time; It IS a bit noisy if you're being active.
Disappointing quality
The quality of Fjallraven products has decreased sharply as the brand has grown, and this High Coast Wind Jacket is no exception. The first thing I noticed was how poor the zipper functions. At first I thought maybe it needed to be broken in. Nope. The zipper is terrible. Quite difficult to zip up, and when zipped, the very bottom part often separates. The hemming is also poorly done. Pieces of thread are already coming lose after a few wears. Color is great. Fit is good. Love the fabric. But simply not worth the price.
Horrible zipper
The zipper on this is so bad that I cannot even take the jacket off without pulling it over my head. Expensive jacket but not worth it if it can’t even function like a basic jacket
Love the jacket, versatile and fun!
Sometimes, you get a product where you hate some part of it (zipper), but you put up with it because somehow the product is amazing. Ever since I got the jacket, it is the only jacket I wear (springtime here). In chilly times it is cold, but not too cold, when the sun is out it is warm but not too hot, I don't have to worry about how I dress, always kind of feels right. So I love it, great fit, roomy where I need it, pockets where I want them. Material is just right. Each time I put it on, I have to pay attention to the zipper ... it is a YKK zipper, supposedly high-end, but it is always a challenge to get it right ... we put a man on a Moon, but you can't design a zipper on a $200 jacket ... c'mon!! Still an excellent purchase, and of all my impulse buys, this is by far the best.
Perfect Lightweight Shell for Unpredictable Weathe
I'm thoroughly impressed with this versatile wind jacket. The G-1000 Lite fabric hits that sweet spot between weather protection and breathability - blocking wind while letting you move freely. The fit is athletic with room for a light layer underneath. Thoughtful details make it stand out: adjustable hood stays put, well-placed zip pockets, and packs down small. After testing it through coastal hikes and mountain trails, I can confirm the water-resistant finish handles light rain well. Classic Fjallraven quality throughout. Perfect for hiking, traveling, or just running errands on changeable days.
Great jacket!!
I like to wear this over a warm vest. It gives great eind and also rain protection. I actually love the zipper so maybe others have a problem with a zipper with 2 toggles, for me its no problem. I was wondering if the fjallraven wax would work on this material for extra waterproofing.
Quality, Technical Perfection, and Aesthetic AF
Classic Fjällräven vibe with top-notch tech sensibility. The hidden elastic toggles on the bottom hem are a brilliant touch. Wore it during a downpour at Rocky Mountain and walked out as dry as I started. I just looked a little cooler than usual. Definitely recommend.
Great Jacket. Garbage Zipper.
I'm going to reiterate a few things about this jacket that were covered in prior reviews. Ok first off, I love the way this jacket looks and fits. I've received a few compliments already and I really like the way I look when I'm wearing it. It is definitely a windbreaker and not a rain jacket. I you are caught in a light misting, you will stay pretty dry. But today I was caught in what I'd consider to be a medium rain shower and after about 10 minutes I was feeling the water soaking into the shoulders of my shirt and my arms. In the wind, it is perfect. I run a little warm so I like that I can go out in a t-shirt with this and not get chilly from the wind and it also breathes well so you won't overheat. Ok now for the negative. The Zipper setup is a terrible design. I've been an industrial designer and UX designer for a decade and this zipper fails on both accords. I understand what they were trying to do by having the two sliders instead of one slider and a zipper box style starting point. I think the idea was that the user could hold onto the handle of bottom slider while zipping the top slider. But here's where it fails - The two sliders have to be perfectly aligned in order to insert and remove the slider pin. So it takes forever to zip and unzip this jacket. I'm actually kind of shocked that they allowed this jacket to hit the shelves knowing that there was such a big quality issue. And I guarantee that they knew because nobody can bring a product to market like this without the product team raising a red flag. Anyway, I'm thinking of returning it because of this issue.
