High Quality, Wrong Shape for Me
Nice, lightweight, and well made saddle. This has approximately the same amount of padding as any of the “comp” style saddles fro Fizik, Selle Italia, and others. However, the shape of this saddle created some fairly unbearable hot spots when riding. I lasted a bout 5 minutes on the indoor trainer before throwing in the towel. Saddles are highly personal items, so take this review with some skepticism, however, I have been riding and racing since 1994, and have ridden many saddles that didn’t quite produce this level of discomfort. I’ve had similar experiences with cut-out saddles from Fizik, Selle San Marco, and Specialized.
Outstanding, revolutionary sear
This seat is a Godsend. This is the first time in decades I’ve ridden without crotch pain and numbing. The seat is wide enough to support me well but narrow enough to stay out of the way. Comfort is excellent and the outer material adheres to my shorts or tights just enough to enable my position to remain where I want. It’s a tad heavy, but I’m too heavy, too, and it certainly won’t affect my riding. In fact, the comfort enables me to ride longer without pausing to return blood flow to the area. In short, it’s comfortable, solid, sturdy, and helps me to anticipate a good, pain free ride.
hard edge ruins a great saddle
The groove is a fantastic innovation for prostate comfort. I didn't need to tense and lift my weight off the seat when going over roots or divots. My previous saddle was an Oval 300 that came with my bike. The Aeolus Comp is less padded, but still comfortable on the butt during my 3 long (26 mile) test rides. Unfortunately, what ruins this saddle is the hard plastic edge along the bottom that the saddle cover joins. On the test rides, this gave me a sensation of my bike shorts catching and folding over on that edge. By the end of the 3rd ride, it became apparent that I would be suffering chafing from that edge if I continued. If the cover folded over and was secured in the underside/inside, this would be a great saddle, but, as is, it snags and chafes too much for comfortable longer rides.
great for women experiencing discomfort!!!
I bought this based off a previous reviewer who mentioned she tried several other popular brands and none but this helped take the pressure off her lady bits. I feel it’s my duty to leave a review confirming this and spread the word about this great seat! The wider option was perfect for me (5’8”, 125 lbs) and I finally felt like my butt was in the right place and something wasn’t off. Im so thrilled I can finally bike without crotch pain lol - ordering a second one for my other bike right now.
Love at first sit
The foam in the seat felt more firm to the touch than that in my Specialized Phenom Comp, so I was worried this might pulvarize my undercarriage. I could not have been more misguided. I had not planned on writing a review until I had ridden it more, but it took virtually no adjustment time to get used to the new seat. Frankly, the first time I sat on the thing it felt perfect. If you have not been biking, you will need to get used to sitting on your sit bones, but that will be true with every saddle. The first ride I took it on was up and down Mount Diablo, then around the surrounding cities. Brand new saddle on a 40 mile ride with 4,000 feet of elevation was a great test for a new rider like me. The long channel means that no matter where you sit on the seat, you will have no issue with smashing any tender soft tisue. Riding over sharp bumps I expected to get punched in the sit bones, but the saddle has enough deflection in the rails and substrate to easily absorb road buzz and bumps. Saddles are obviously an intimate touch point between rider and bicycle. You should always try to test ride a saddle before you buy, but I rolled the dice because of Bontrager's generous 90 day return policy. If you're willing to roll the dice, this has been a huge upgrade for me.
A great saddle for pressure relief
Great for relieving pressure on the lady bits. I tried ergon, terry, and selle italia, but this seat felt immediately great. It’s easy to shift my weight onto my sits bones...I’m a less experienced rider, but I did 20 miles on my second ride in this saddle with chamois shorts and the others I could barely do 10. It doesn’t dig into my pelvic area like other saddles did.
Nice upgrade seat
I upgraded to this seat from the standard long nose one on my tri bike. I also wanted a cut out to relieve pressure on my perineum and to reduce chafing on my upper thigh. All in all, I like the seat, and it has reduced the unwanted pressure and chafing. My only wish is that the padding was a little less stiff. The area around my sitz bones will get a little sore on longer rides. Maybe my being 59 yrs old has softened me up a bit...
Nice saddle, a little fragile
Really enjoyed this saddle for the first 200ish miles. Way less padding than I'm used to, but still quite comfortable. The cutout prevents numbness, even during longer rides on the indoor trainer. However, during a very minor fall at maybe 1-2 mph, the saddle hit the ground and the flimsy plastic connector in the rear of the saddle snapped in half. Liked the product, just wish it was more durable.
Good pressure relief. Still not perfect.
I'm 170lbs with narrow sit-bones and am looking for something that I can basically forget about for 2hr+ rides. The full length channel is much appreciated, but the wings/shoulders of the saddle end up digging into my rear end on the pedal downstroke. I'll try it for another few weeks to see if I adapt, but I may have to switch to a Seller Anatomica. I was really hoping this would be the one...
Super comfortable
I got a fixed gear bike which has a a bit of a track bike like geometry and would be leaning more forward than on my commuter bike. The pressure relief void runs basically the whole length of saddle and regardless of how fore or aft I end up, it is very comfortable. That I don't think about the seat when I am riding is the best thing about it.
