Too tight in the hips
I really wanted this coat to work, the greenish color is beautiful. I loved it until I zipped it up. There was a death grip on my hips/butt. I am a size 6, and I ordered a small. The upper body fit well, with a tad extra space, so I know I can't order up without it fitting all wrong. I guess it would work if you aren't curvy.
Fit is off
I’m baffled by these reviews. They’re all different which makes me think this jacket has been revamped and some reviews don’t apply. I’m 5’5” and 32dd. I would say I’m average through the torso and the medium was a little snug for me. My arm movement was slightly restricted. It fits perfectly with a shirt but too tight to wear a sweatshirt under. I’m typically a small, occasionally a size medium to accomodate my bust.
Not true to size
I wasn't sure how many stars to give because I ended up returning it. I am 5'4" and 145 lbs and ordered a medium. It was too tight in the hips even though my hips measurement fit the size chart for a medium. A large would have been too big since it fit well everywhere else. It was also not a very flattering cut on me because of how the pockets stuck out a bit. I ordered the green and it was brighter than I expected - more of a teal. One of the Q&A's says it packs down to the size of a soft ball. I had trouble getting it all the way into its pocket and it was more like 2.5x the size of a softball.
LOVE THERMOBALL
I tried to get this hooded thermoball in the NF STORE in the POOL GREEN color. But my size was gone. Then checked NF on line - it didn't carry the green on line. So I finally found 1 on Moosejaw. It's kind of a nice spring color - very pretty. I love these thermoball jackets - I have many of them. I esp like the hooded ones because they cover the head and neck. Everyone in my family has one and loves them.
Thermoball sizing
I was advised to buy a size large by the "Find your size" online thingy here. That's silly. I'm glad I got a medium because I'm almost never a large and large would have been huge on me. This jacket fits true to size. I am 5'10" slender-build 160lb with a 36" chest and long arms. The sleeves are nice and long and the cuffs sit where they should just below my wrist. My chest has plenty of room to take huge breaths, twist, lift my arms, etc. This jacket fits even better than the Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer medium, which restricts my movement a little more (but is quite a bit lighter). Anyway I'd recommend not sizing up if you are in doubt.
I bought this style jacket for my entire real estate team!
I just bought 13 jackets for my real estate team and this is the second set of them. 2 years ago I bought the same jacket style but without the hoods and had our team logos put on them and the team loved them so much we pretty much all wore them out so this Christmas we bought our second set for the team and they really like the new ones with hoods because we live in Alaska so as you can imagine they come in very handy. I personally love this jacket because I travel a lot for business and I can roll it up into a tiny ball and put it in my carry-on so that I have a jacket no matter where I go! Best and most versatile jacket I have owned. :-)
Great Jacket
This jacket is great. It's warn enough to wear when you're skiing in the spring, but not so cumbersome that you can't wear it when it's just a little cool. You can shove it in a suitcase and it'll look the same when you unpack it. And soft!! A lot of times when I don't want to wear anything, and it's a little cool, I'll just put this jacket on when I go out on a hotel balcony or even as a shirt when I go for breakfast. I just have to remember that that's all I have on if the dining room is a little warm. The one time I forgot, the guys didn't seem to mind but a couple of the wives did. Plus it gave us something to laugh about in the years to come.
Amazing technology
The primaloft technology is amazing in this jacket. I think it's warmer than most of my 800 fill down coats. And incredibly weightless and comfortable. I really like wearing it and I like the fuchsia color. I gave it 4 stars because I think North Face needs to work on its measurements as of late. For example, my 2011 thunder jacket fits like a glove- the sizing is perfect. But it seems like the past couple of years The North Face has changed its sizing and is making their coats with longer sleeves and longer, narrower sizing within the torso area. I would recommend going back to your original sizing. Most women aren't 5'11' and a size 2.
LOVE!!!!!!! amazing jacket !!!!
I have been contemplating this jacket for a couple of years now and I finally ordered the correct size- small fits my 120 5.6 32dd frame. I have many north face items but usually my go to jackets are Lululemon. I am so glad this year Lululemon made poor fitting jackets which made me try this one again. Now I want them in many colors- super light but still very warm- I tend to get cold but this jacket has kept me warm on 30 degree weather. I have to say this is my pick up and go jacket everywhere. I purchased the Laurel wreath color and it's beautiful. Also great for packing since it takes very little room. Super happy with my purchase!!!
Great for a South Carolina Winter
This is lightweight coat perfect for South Carolina Winters. The coat does have a tag on it, "slim fit". This might explain the negative reviews for fitting through the hips. I'm 5'8 and 150 lbs, ordered a large, and will have room for a sweater underneath. I got the white/grey color, which is not really white, and not really grey. My husband said "light green". It's neutral and light in color. Why I like it? I paid less than $100 by using my Labor Day discount, warm but not heavy and light color. Also, it's REI and I love their easy returns!
