I chose these trail running shoes to walk the Camino de Santiago across Northern Spain. We began in St Jean Pied du Port and ended in Santiago. Wore these daily across up and down, rocks, boulders, sand, city streets, and rain. You can hardly tell any wear on the bottom. The back, just behind my heel inside the shoe wore through but caused no blisters. I had zero blisters on our 500 mile trek, always felt strong and supported, no aches and pains due to my shoes. I did put in a new insert after 200 miles though. As the guy at REI said, they are not meant for 500 miles but I did not want to carry and extra pair and they did a great job! Buying a new pair now.
First off, if you prefer the Perigrin, why are you reviewing the Xodus? Maybe I'm missing something? I adore these shoes. I've been an Xodus fan for years and thousands of miles. These particular lugs navigate me up 11,000' mnts in pristine Montana and are comfortable on the soft game trail home. They dry quickly and the traction keeps you from breaking bones even when wet. The toe box is wider on the shoe itself, lending more traction and stability. What else can I say? I love 'em!
I walked around with these on for just a few minutes and found the toe box, although wide and long enough, was too short in height for my feet. I’ve worn many varieties of Saucony before and this has never been an issue.
For trail running, I much prefer the Saucony Peregrine.
Unfortunately this pair is going back. Stiff, inflexible footbed makes my forefeet ache and the low collar lets in pebbles and twigs.
