Chest pocket needs a redesign
I love this jacket, especially with the new Pine Green color way, however there is a design flaw that I've found to be troublesome. The pocket/stuffsack is not fully sewn into the jacket, it is only sewn at the zipper. So the entire pocket is mostly untethered, making the pocket flap out with a little bit of jostling. I may have gotten a defective model that is sewn in such a way that it's more prone to folding over backwards, but the pocket flips outwards after very little time. The jacket is perfect in every way except this glaring issue I hope is addressed soon.
Bike Packing
Best light weight jacket! Bought my 2nd jacket recently in the bright yellow for visibility. Truly is a magic “Houdini” jacket! The only jacket I packed for bike packing the Northern Californian pacific coast in September 2023. Kept me dry in foggy / light drizzly conditions and warm but not too warm while cycling early morning. Super quick drying. Great to put on over hoodies or sweatshirts as a wind breaker - I use it at least twice weekly playing Pickle ball.
They ruined this windbreaker!
I purchased a Houdini windbreaker a few years back. I run hot so having a lightweight something to throw on is extremely helpful. I had thought I lost that one, so I purchased a new one thinking it would be the same and it's not. For some reason they decided to make more money and cut costs and not sew the pocket to the jacket. Now when you walk around with the jacket unziped or partially zipped you have a flap to deal with.
Less is definitely more for this staple.
Less is definitely more for this staple. It is incredibly effective despite it's seemingly vapor-like light weight. I am normally somewhere between a medium and large depending on the brand and product. I first got a Janji Windbreaker in a large as that is what I wear in their rain jacket and t-shirt. However the sleeves were too long. The Patagonia Houdini in medium fits perfectly and I have run in only a t-shirt plus this jacket in 27-degree weather for a race and been totally comfortable. I like the fit a bit snug to keep heat in during a road or trail run. Would buy again.
Other than the poor breathability, a great jacket!
Heads up, this jacket is not very breathable. I get quite a bit of condensation in the sleeves during runs. Sometimes that's the price we pay for water resistance, but just temper your expectations. I suggest patagonia put some zippered vents or something in the next iteration. That said, I like everything else about this jacket: It sheds light rain and blocks the wind well. It's super lightweight and compressible; if I want to take it off during a run I just roll it up and put it in my shorts pocket and I forget it's there. It fits me great (I'm 6'0, 180 lbs and bought the medium). I think it looks pretty good too; I got the abalone and it's something different.
Works perfectly when used as intended.
I like this ultralight windbreaker jacket a lot. It is my go-to for mountain bike riding if I need a light wind-breaker. Stuffs into the chest pocket and packs up into nothing for when you need it. It doesn't work as great for all-around everyday use as it lacks pockets. I ended up buying a Kuhl Parajax that I wear more because of the pockets. The chest pocket can flop around and doesn't stay flat if the jacket is unzipped. It also hangs funny if you put anything heavy in it. Basically kind of useless other than as a built in stuff sack, which it works perfectly as. For walking or hiking, it can get clammy inside with a lack of airflow or venting. Mountain biking is faster so you're moving a lot more air and it vents better (although I have to unzip all the way for climbs). Fairly water-resistant, although after an hour so in drizzle, it started to leak through. Moisture came in on the shoulders, chest, and back panels, not the seams or zipper. This wasn't a huge problem, as I didn't purchased it as rain jacket. The cut and sizing is spot on. My jackets are all size large, and this one fits perfectly when worn by itself and a single layer underneath. Keep that in mind if you want to wear it with multiple or bulky layers, as it might get tight with added bulk underneath it. Photo shows me with three layers of Patagucci (Houdini, down sweater, and Fjord flannel), a cotton T, and a Smartwool T. Yeah, it was cold and wet out, but I was dry and warm (minus gloves, which I didn't bring...). Four out of five stars as it feels, fits, and looks good, but doesn't vent, leaks through, and lacks pockets. Those aren't bad things, as it's sold as an ultra-light jacket, which will have some compromises. You have to make sure it meets your needs, and if it does, it is a great jacket.

This jacket is great. I’ve worn it on a couple of cooler weather bike rides and it does a great job of cutting the wind. Not the most breathable for hills, but that’s fine. I bought it for wind protection. Also wore it briefly in some drizzle and the water beaded right off. Take note, this isn’t a rain jacket, nor does it claim to be. It has a DWR finish that helps to repel light precip. And no, it doesn’t have pit vents. If it did, it wouldn’t be 3.2 ounces and you’d have a regular, heavy jacket. The reviews complaining about lack of features don’t want this jacket. They want a marmot precip, or a Patagonia torrentshell. If you want a super lightweight, ultra packable wind stopper, get this. No bells and whistles but does the job.
Not overly windproof or water proof
I really like the look, feel, and weight of this jacket; however, because it is not overly windproof or waterproof, I'm not quite sure what to do with it. The intended use was as a very light weight shell for jogging in the PNW. I have used it in light as well as heavier rains. In both cases it soaked though. It provides a bit of protection & warmth, but not enough to make a difference even over a relatively short (30 min) jog. I think if you like the appearance of the jacket and are willing to pay the $$ for that, it may be worth it. If you are looking for a more functional shell, I would look for something a bit more robust.
Its great if you know what you're buying
If you know what you're buying, then this is a great purchase. If you don't, then you're one of those people leaving a negative reviews on a product whose purpose and properties you have no understanding of. This is an amazing lightweight, extremely packable wind jacket. It's great for use above treeline, on top of summits, or anywhere else where there is ample wind and no protection. It traps body heat super well too which is nice for static activity but becomes and issue when active.. which is not the purpose of this jacket anyway. It does have DWR coating which helps with hail, sleet and light rain/moisture. No it's not a rain jacket. If you bought it to use as one that's on you. Read first, buy second.
Take this jacket everywhere!
This is a very nice lightweight windbreaker that will not take up much space in your backpack or wherever you are carrying it. It appears to have some minor improvements over the previous version. One example is the elastic draw chord for the waist is much shorter. The older version was so long it would find its way into my pocket and grab my car keys. When I tightened the chord one time I almost lost the keys. Also the jacket is nice looking with a well designed hood. I gave it one less star because for such a lightweight spartan jacket (it has one small chest pocket) I feel it's a bit overpriced.
