Absolutely fantastic pants. These are one of my favorite pairs of soft shells. I've used these in the climbing gym, hiking, sport climbing, multi-pitch, and in the alpine (Sahale and Forbidden). They're a bit thin, but super stretchy and breathable. The waist is elastic on the sides with a drawstring for tightening so they're super comfortable under a harness. There is also drawstring at the ankles so you can tighten them over boots or pull them up. For three season use they're fine as is, but they're a bit thin for really cold temps. As a point of reference I'm 6' and 205 lbs. I usually have a hard time finding pants that fit my thighs without being loose in the waist. However, these pants fit about perfect in a size large. If you have an athletic body shape, give these a try.
I originally bought these as hiking/casual pants. Over the last year or so I have worn these on weekends, used these on countless hikes training for Rainier, taken them bouldering and climbing in the gym, and up Sahale Peak and the West Ridge of Forbidden Peak. They are true "do it all" pants. With a base layer, they are comfortable to freezing temperatures or slightly below. On their own I have used them in temperatures into the 70s without issues. The material of the pants is very breathable. One of my favorite features is the drawstring waist. While other pants sag over the day or bunch up under a harness, these are barely noticeable. The only improvements I could suggest for these pants would be zippered pockets and more colors. That would make these the ultimate Alpine pant in my opinion.
Fist off I was looking for the perfect pair of pants for use in the late spring time through early fall in mountain search and rescue. These pants are almost right for that. Only rated 4 stars because the knee panels are just that as opposed to knee patches. For SAR work I was looking for a pant with a double seat and double knee. I feel if these pants had that and a couple more pockets they would be perfect for SAR work. As for hiking, doing stuff on the rock these are AMAZING! Very light weight, extremely comfortable and have great mobility. Very quick drying too, just like the Ferrosi Hoody. I wore these for the first time in 40°, full sun and breezy weather and they were great. 2nd hike was in 30° snowing (wet) and 5mph wind and they were amazing too. (No layer underneath the pants). So, even though they might not have the few extras I was looking for for my SAR work, they are amazing pants. Oh, I actually love the waist. No belt loops, and no problems. In the first two hikes in them I never had to pull them up once.
I have the regular Ferrosi pant and thought I would try out this pair for bouldering. I love the Ferrosi material, however the section on the knees need to be about a inch or two lower. When I bend my knees, the end of the burly material is right on the middle of my knee and has already pulled some stitching on the first day of climbing. If it was lower, this would have been prevented. Generally I am a size 30 waist and this one is too tight. I dont need to use the draw strings at all and the button closer is rather tight as well. I was worried I would tear the material just by undoing it. Positive points, great bungee at the ankles and very breathable. I bought the shade colour and was complimented on the colour.
I bought these pants for hiking and rock climbing in Colorado. They're made of the same lightweight material the other Ferossi pants are but have extra material around the knees, which makes me worry less about tearing them when I'm doing hardcore activities. There is also elastic in the waistband, meaning that I can skip wearing a belt and not worry about the pants slipping down, a problem I do have with the regular Ferossi pants. Also, the thigh pocket on these pants open horizontally, which I prefer to the vertical zip pockets on the normal Ferossi pants.
The Ferrosi Crag pants are excellent rock climbing pants. I ordered them because I love the regular Ferrosi pants and wanted a long pair of climbing pants to provide more protection from scrapes and scratches on rock of the gym wall. They fit great, not too tight and not too loose. I like the elastic waistband which provides great flexibility. Only downside I have with them is the front pockets flap out kind of awkwardly when standing around. Would be nice if they were larger to fit my phone and keys better, but not a big issue for actual use when climbing.
Great pair of pants for climbing, hiking, and other adventuring. I like them way more than the regular ferrosi pants largely due to the low profile elastic waistband. Almost every other light soft shell pant (whether Patagonia, OR, Prana etc) stretches way out on the waist for me when I use them for real activity. These don't. They are also comfortable under a pack or harness and light enough to be useful in a wide range of weather and temperature conditions. Love them and hopeful that some new (lighter) colors are on the horizon.
My preferred use: general hiking. Great: Lightweight, fast drying, breathable, stretch material that resists abrasion, stretch waistband with drawstring rides well under pack belt, large opening bucket front pockets. Not so Good: Toothbrush loop on back of pant sits under pack lumbar pad abrading back and is difficult to reach when under a climbing harness/chalk bag. Knee reinforcements are not long/low enough when in a harness or kneeling down, reinforcement rises above the knee exposing the lighter weight material. Outer side leg seam sits perfectly on the knee bone when jammed in a crack, not so comfortable but neither is the crack. With a few minor modifications, these pants could be great for both general hiking and summer climbing, confirming the name "Crag Pant".
I love these pants. Designed for ease of movement. I'm wearing them in the winter but really they are a summer pant (I run warm). I've worn them for a variety of purposes from day to day to sunny ice climbs, and I am a fan. The only con I could come up with was no belt loops which is because they are a crag pant. It would still be nice to have the option, but I get it's counter to their purpose. These pants are definitely coming with me on a warm destination adventure trip next month!
These pants are the bomb! They are extremely comfortable...almost like wearing PJ's to the crag! Super flexible and move with you, not against you. Great for summer as they are lightwieght and breathable. Put an insulating layer under them for the chillier days and they work great as well. They dry out super quick and pack down really small...I can't say enough great things about these pants...they simply rock which is why I ordered another pair!
