Not bad
I purchased the "Compact" version, its lightweight, compact, and sturdy (the last extension is a little wobbly but works just fine) Biggest complaint: it doesn't accommodate larger carbiners as well as smaller ones. I have the Black Diamond Positron, they do work but just barely. I wish the metal piece that holds the gate open was slightly longer /stiffer. (It does not work with locking carabiners) But overall I am happy with this purchase. Previously I have used the Painters poll and the Superclip (Which is very very stiff, and not compact enough for my use)
All in one pack friendly tool
Every crew should have one. I see from other users that the longevity vs. price leaves something to be desired, but for the majority of climbers that aren't living out of a van and climbing outside 4-5 times a week, it's money well spent. There aren't many compact setups like this, and my previous setup was a $30 painters pole with a clamp attachment I built. This is lighter than that setup, and most others I've seen, and can be hung from a harness for hard projects you're setting up. The first thing to go is the endcap, so I've taped mine already, both as ownership marker and to keep that endcap on. Really like the tool, and have never failed to get the clip with it yet.
Best stick Clip
I really like my beta stick. you can do everything with it: clip the first draw, clip the rope after being pulled, remove a draw, and attach a brush for bouldering. Plus it fits well into my crag pack unlike other stick clips. It works great for projecting mid route, though I wouldn't attach it to my harness since it would be kinda bulky. I had one for 4 years and I climb multiple times a week. Nothing ever broke, though it did show normal scratches that one might expect. I left it at a crag and, sure enough, it wasn't there when I returned, so I bought a new one. Money well spent!
Very practical. Not very tough.
This is the perfect companion for projecting hard sport routes. It collapse small enough to go on your harness so you can clip the next bolt while you’re in direct to the bolt you’re at. This makes working hard routes much easier and more efficient. The only drawback is the durability of the pole. Mine is currently held together by climbing tape and my friend’s was not salvageable. Not to say that we didn’t abuse these a little, but still. For the price I’d like a little more lifespan.
Great Stick Clip
This is a great stick clip, but its internal plastic bushings are fragile. You can avoid damaging them by following Trango's instructions, which recommend extending the pole sections gently to their full length and then backing them off an inch or so. If you're like me, though, and didn't read the instructions or watch their video, you will likely 'break' your stick clip. But, like me, you can contact Trango at info@trango.com or (303) 530-3035 to talk to them about getting replacement parts to fix it.
Problem with locking spring
Bought this online and it appears I received a return because there was missing zip ties and scrapes on the plastic where someone had obviously used it. When I tested it with a carabiner, the steel locking spring would not hold carabiner gates open which I assume is why it would have been returned. I wish whoever taken in the return had taken time to inspect the product instead of just selling it to the next person. Just a big waste of time :(
The Best Stickclip!
This is by far the best stick clip I've used. Lightweight, extends and contracts quick and easy, and does everything you need. You can places draws, clip a rope into a draw that's already hung, and even remove draws. Clip it to you harness as you climb and you can even clip up the whole route! Suggestion- Look up the video online that show you how to use it as some of its function are not intuitive. (E.G. the wire arm is adjustable to accommodate all biner sizes.)
Great stick clip but broke after minimal use.
This is a great piece of gear, friends have had them for years. The one I purchased in May has been used a handful of times and one of the telescoping pieces broke. I will have to return it.
Durability Is Lacking!
When purchasing this please look at other reviews concerning durability. This product will last a season if your careful with it. Plan on buying a new one every season if you are using it consistently. It is pretty much a consumable like, tape, rope, harness, slings. For the price point I can not recommend this stick clip due to the durability, but it does fit in a standard suit case and does what it is supposed to very well.
Almost a perfect product
I got the shortest version which I regret because it is just barely too short at my favorite crags. If I got a longer version, this would still be a 4/5. To best use this device, you really need 2 hands on it fully loaded and at full extension. The shortest version of this stick clip requires me to, more often than not, use only one hand to reach and stabilize the end because it is not long enough on its own to reach. This kinda sucks as it sometimes means I have partially climbed the bottom fo the route just to reach some of the higher bolted first bolts. I will probably get the longer version eventually, once I get sick of this game. The actual head *mostly* works. On some quickdraws, the gate retention spring struggles to grip and the gate flutters closed very easily. Weirdly, it seems to work better on wire gates for me. Also, I wish there were a way to stow the gate retention spring without wearing it out. You can kind of fold it up, but it weakens the spring, exacerbating the above issue. Ive either poked myself or someone else with the pointy wire bits once or twice and that was not super pleasant. Overall, It works well enough that I have trouble recommending something else. These are just minor issues, one of which is not entirely the fault of the product.
