obsessed with this bike

I've been riding this bike for over 2 years and have loved every minute of it. Great for the beginner or seasoned rider alike. Does well on technical trails, though the fork could be better. I use it for mountain biking as well as bike packing. This is THE optimal bike for excelling at both activities. Medium size is perfect for me at 5'5. The biggest down side of the bike is that the tires don't come tubeless or even tubeless ready. Flats are very hard to change on these rims due to how wide they are, so upgrading to tubeless was necessary. Overall, still pretty good for the price, especially considering it has a dropper. Although this functioned as my first "real" mountain bike, I don't plan on moving on from it any time soon - while this bike is great for beginners and casual riders, it is not limited to that audience.

Awesome bike, no regrets

I was leaning hard towards the SLX model, but price was a factor. I am thrilled with the Deore bike. The drive train is amazing, I can't imagine missing the 11th gear on the cassette. The Suntour fork was a bit of a wild card, but it's been a pleasant surprise - very supple, good range of adjustment, etc. It's heavy but wonderful. The stock tires have been great too, but it's disappointing that they're not tubeless compatible. All in all I'm thrilled at how confident and agile this bike rides. At 5'10" I opted for the large, and it was the right choice for me. I can't recommend it highly enough!

Dream bike at great price point

I bought this bike 5 weeks ago, and I am absolutely thrilled with it. It has smooth shifting, and the 2.8'' tires plus the dropper post make descents over roots and rocks feel fun and fast (while feeling safe). I have two complaints: it's a heavy bike & the front tire isn't quick release, but for this price point, I am really OK with it. If you're thinking about buying this bike, DO IT. The Timberjack won't let you down. I'm between 5'6'' and 5'7'' and went with a Small frame, and it's perfect.

Salsa Timberjack Deore = Great bike for the price!

Bought this bike a couple weeks back and have no regrets at all! I was also skeptical about the Suntour fork, but it has been great on some pretty rooty and rocky terrain. Really enjoy the plus size tires and the ability to make it a 29er if I'd like (haven't yet). I'm 5'9" and went with a medium and it fits great. Between the air fork, 1x drive train, plus sized tires, and dropper, this is a great bike for the money. Definitely recommend!

Retraction of comments: REI discounted price

Please ignore my earlier comment about the REI discounted price matching the manufacturer MSRP. The fact is that both the manufacturer and REI are offering a the same sale price at the same time, a good thing.

Love this bike

This bike has made riding fun again. The plus tires and 130 mm fork soak up rough stuff and keep you upright. This confidence boost has allowed me to ride faster on the trails. It is agile and playful on the trails, even with the big tires. I also like how customizable it is. Ride rowdy trails with plus tires, stick 29ers on for XC speed, or slide the dropouts back for some stable bikepacking. I think the biggest compliment the Timbejack received was both of the REI mechanics were waiting on theirs’ to arrive at the store.

Awesome bike!

I bought this bike and it is and it’s so awesome. The plus tires just soak up the technical sections and keeps you balanced, also the suspension handles really well! Overall I think this is a great bike for average riders that don’t enjoy technical trails.
