Great addition to my kit!
It fits really well. This one is much more breathable than others I have used. It doesn’t trap moisture, which could stick to your skin and make you cold. I love the hinged option so I can lower it to regulate my temperature. I use this while doing cold weather camping and hiking.
Best balaclava I've owned ... and there are many
I have owned many balaclavas and none of been very good. I thought I would try one more! This one has a huge amount of flexibility in how you wear it. In full protection mode, it is excellent. I live in Alaska. I've been using it under my helmet riding my fat tire bike down to zero degrees. I used it on the north slope (that's as far north as you can go in the USA) at -40 with wind chills of -70 ... granted with an excellent parka with hood ... and it kept me warm enough. And I've used it skiing. I highly recommend it. (FYI -- For me, I need something not quite so warm above 20 degrees.)
nice adjustable fit
I bought this for snowboarding, my other balaclava was not hinged, and was a pain to adjust or pull down if I was warm. I had no issues with this being overly loose, even though I have a smaller head, even for a woman. I wore this on the slopes and it stayed put while riding. At the base I was able to easily and comfortably pull it down while in line, as well as up on the lift or at the top. The fit is not overly tight which kept my goggles clear, and I was able to tuck it into my helmet easily to secure the spot. It’s very warm, especially with an insulated helmet. For reference I wear a Womens Small helmet.
Excellent mid-warmth protection
Perfect for stationary or active activities in all except very strong wind and temperatures well below freezing when a wind stopper fabric is needed. The WindPro fabric cuts 25-40% wind and breathes making it good with high exertion. The fit is not too tight and the part covering the face comfortably slips up over or below the nose or below the chin, it's easy to wear with glasses, the ears are covered by a double layer. When the temp drops, I wear this balaclava with the REI Insulated Waterproof Hat 119-161, size L/XL that covers the ears & low on back of neck. This gives good layering and you can trade back & forth between the balac or hat which is crushable/wind/water proof. My head size is 22.75".
Warm and well-made for even the larger-headed
Love this Balaclava. Keeps the wind out and fits under my bike helmet. Only improvement I would like to see is a little thinner fabric around the mouth/nose area only. I found my goggles or glasses getting fogged on those super cold days because it is wind resistant (in both directions). Turns out I am full of hot air. Other than that, I couldn't be happier. Keeps me toasty warm when biking or skiing--just have to keep my mouth and nose exposed. Also, its rare for a one-sized product to fit me--this one does perfectly!
Difference from older version
I purchased this balaclava a year or so ago and loved it. It is snug, and I can wear in under a bike helmet to keep my ears covered. It has worn well in the wash. I put this on my Christmas this year and was disappointed when I saw the new construction. The material is -- how do I explain --slippery? I just don't like the feel as the original one I purchased. It's still a decent balaclava for a good price. As far as sizing, it might be tight for larger heads.
Versatile for Cold Weather
Bought this for a multi-day xc skiing trip in North Central Maine early March 2022. It was just what I needed. It was still really cold up there, and this balaclava can act as a scarf, a hat, earmuffs and a complete face mask. It is durable and lightweight. I highly recommend it.
Great investment
Bought this balaclava for myself & the kid's size for my son, after buying an electric cargo bike, so that we could bike comfortable through the winter. We're both so obsessed with them that my husband asked for one as well. These are keeping our whole family warm & biking through the winter! They fold up small & easily fit into a purse My 2nd best purchase of the year, after e-bike
Very warm
Have had a chance to wear this hiking on a couple very cold days. Fits well, keeps out the wind, and the soft lining is very comfortable. Happy to own it. There is no bad weather, only bad clothing.
Warm and Comfortable
The title says it all. I needed something to keep my face warm while biking around in the colder months, and this balaclava is the perfect choice. Aside from being a great material for keeping me warm and comfortable, it has a flexible design that can be adjusted from full coverage to an open face. Plus it's a co-op brand, and I love supporting the co-op!
