Good but limited use
I’ve been using Crank Bros for road and mountain for years. Candys and eggbeaters. Really nice float and smooth easy release, no edges to catch unlike others. I got these for our indoor exercise bike as others besides me don’t use bike shoes with cleats. Does the trick! They seem a little tougher than eggbeaters to get into due to the shape and stuff but OK. The flat side works well for using just with running shoes. However if I use the flat side with my bike shoes it’s rather slippery. I don’t think this would work for your mountain bike if you want to clip for most parts but go flat for the technical bits. In that case maybe get the Double Shot 3 as it has more aggressive spikes on the flat side. But this is fine for a town bike where you might want to use bike shoes with cleats one day and running shoes another day.
Budget Pedal With Budget Features.
I’ll start off by saying these pedals work fine. They still function as intended and they’re built to last but I still regret the purchase. These are on my fat bike which sees occasional summer use but mostly gets used in winter. I hate the plastic surface. It’s super slippery and I regret not having clips on both sides. My other bikes all have high end pedals and I bought these thinking they’d be ok but honestly I feel like they’re cheap budget pedals that just won’t die. Durable? Yes. They’re bomb proof but I wish they were the M8120 Shimano XT pedals. Sorry. I just don’t love them.
Fails at sole purpose
Absolutely awful, avoid at all costs. I needed to replace Shimano clip-ins that were over 20 years old and were finally due. Purchased these based on a store representative's selection. There is no tensioner to adjust the clips which might explain why it is all but impossible to get the clips (which are included in the packaging) to slot in while pedaling. There are letters on the clips to indicate which shoe they go into and which way (though the design appear symmetrical) and I tried every possible orientation on both shoes just to be certain. Going straight into the garbage.
Solid pedal, nice being able to flip them over.
Newbie cyclist trying "clipless" for the first time. So far my experience with MTB has always been with flat pedals. I really like these Crankbrothers so far and appreciate the ability to flip them over when I want to ride with regular skater-style shoes. The doubleshot is a nice design and offers decent float. It took me a little while to figure out the right position for my feet and saddle height to eliminate knee pain, but once I got that dialed in I've been riding 95% of the time clipped in and comfortable. If I had one gripe, it would be that the knobby-ness and grippy-ness of the pegs on the flat side could be a little more aggressive when you're not riding clipless. Maybe that's addressed by buying the Double Shot 3?
tough to unclip
Bought these for the versatility. I clip in regularly when road and gravel cycling. These are tough to unclip from and do not offer a whole lot of float for your cleat. Also requires some shimming of your shoe to be at the right pedal and clip height.
Solid pedala
I always check with REI before ordering any sports related item. I also heard a lot of good about crankbrothers and would agree they are very solid pedals. I can see where they would last, however the issue I have is with the release. The pdeals cannot be adjusted for release. During a recent crash I was not able to realease the right pedal and took the brunt of the hit on my shoulder. Please, if you are not an experienced cyclist, consider another purchase.
works as advertised
Pedals are sturdy and work as advertised. Enjoy having the option to wear regular shoes or clip in comfortably. Pedals come with easy cleats. Installation is simple for the pedals. The cleats get in and out as promised. Would buy it again.
Arrived opened and damaged
Nowhere in the description did these say they were a used, or returned, item. When I opened them, out of the box, they were both scuffed on the ends, the user manual was missing, and one was removed from its box fasteners. I am having an extremely difficult time getting the cleats to clip into the pedal, I am not sure if it is the model, or this particular set - but I am extremely disappointed.
kinda cool
These are cool pedals on paper. The platform side is a bit small. And it’s difficult to clip in... note I’m not used to clipping in. I know how to do it but it seems a bit more difficult with these. Idk maybe put these on your weekend bike or a beater. As far as you’re every day ride... let’s just say I’m probably gonna upgrade to the Shimano duel pedals pretty soon.
Can't Clip In
Based on the REI associates recommendation, bought these SPD pedals instead of the Shimano dual sided ones. But had to return them because they were extremely difficult to clip in, took way too much force. Ended up getting the Shimano pedals with the adjustable clips, were so much easier to use.
