Probably great for your average person

This is probably a 5 star hat for your average person. The manufacturing quality is certainly 5 stars. However, 3 factors make it less than perfect for me. 1) I have a fairly large head. 'One size fits all/most' is almost always tight on my head and this was no exception. For my head it results in a feeling of partial coverage. 2) I am a little sensitive to wool. Smartwool socks do not bother my legs/feet so I thought I would try a hat. The hat doesn't itch a lot, but it does itch my forehead a little. 3) I was hoping the hat would be more like a nice cushy pair of Smartwool socks, but it is a fairly thin hat with a coarse weave. Still good quality, just not the style I would have selected if I had tried it on in a store.

Small Heads Wanted

Needs: (a) fleece lining, at least a 3" band all around (so it doesn't scratch sensitive foreheads); (b) longer length by at least 1" to cover above average sized heads all the way (ears get cold, and slips off randomly). Has: (a) amazing quality stitching; (b) fantastically beautiful fabric (I'm stunned I can feel any irritation on my forehead because their socks are outstandingly non irritating). Recommend: Only to smallish headed folks.

Would 100% buy again

I bought this hat in brown for my boyfriend for Christmas. He already had the charcoal color and wanted another one. This was the one thing I got him that I knew he would really love. It's a beautiful brown color and it goes perfectly with most of his outfits. He loved it and wore it right away. It looked awesome and kept him warm. Unfortunately, he lost it immediately on a road trip, but that's not the hat's fault.

Love the hat! Pills form quickly

This is my favorite warm hat. After a week or so of wearing it, pills on the fabric began to form. I still liked the hat and it was rather expensive so I kept wearing it. I only ever hand washed in cold and hung to dry. Just recently I borrowed a friend's "fabric shaver". It removed all the pills from the hat and it looks brand new. Woohoo. Basically buy a fabric shaver along with this hat and you're set.

Durability Issues

Great hat out of the box. Super comfortable, warm and breathable - exactly what one would expect from Merino. The issue is with the durability. In addition to the piling issues that others have mentioned in their reviews, I have found that the elastic in these hats does not hold up, particularly if they get wet from rain.. I've owned three and all three have had the same issue.

Put this lid on something you value.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] If you want a lid that looks good, feels good, stays put and does not stretch out of shape in time, then this is it. I purchased three (3) and don't mind paying for quality. After all, it goes on my head, the most important thing that I own.

Great for my trip to Iceland

I bought this hat before I went to road trip and hike around Iceland. It kept my head and ears very warm. I thought the fit was perfect and the material feels very soft and comfortable. I would recommend this hat!

Love the headband liner

Now that's it's finally cold here in Knoxville, Tn (sub freezing) I've finally been able to wear this hat. Absolutely love that it actually fits right & comes down low enough to cover my ears.

Warm but outside pills (poor quality)

Warm hat. But, after wearing the hat only four or five days, the outside has completely pilled. Hat now looks terrible. Wouldn't recommend at all.

Very itchy. Needs softer headband.

Bought as a Christmas gift. Started wearing after that, and immediately realized it irritated my forehead too much to wear any length of time.
