More Time on Your Feet and Less Time on Your Butt

My husband and I just finished a 5 day backpacking trip in RMNP. This early in the season there were still plenty of snowfields to cross. These spikes were a lifesaver! They're most helpful in the early mornings when the snow is firm and icy. I felt really secure in every step. Later in the day when the snow turns more slushy and soft, they're still better than bare hiking shoes/trail runners, but snow will collect in the chains and deteriorate the traction, so be sure to knock them off every once in awhile! They're relatively easy on and easy off, but they seem to hold up pretty well walking on rocky stretches between snow patches. I haven't noticed any dulling/bending of mine yet. And they're relatively light compared to other traction devices, so well worth their weight! We were so glad we got them.

Chainsaw review

Purchase approximately one month ago (XL). Attached to boot at that time(size 13.) Substantial, improvement over yaktrax on ice and snow pack. Noticed broken grommet today, Returning to REI and ordering replacement in hope that this is just an anomaly. Given performance to date, its worth a second chance

Sure-footed!

I've only used these a couple times but they have worked great. Very easy to put on/take off. They provided fantastic traction on ice and snow. They are a little snug going over size 13 hiking boots. Overall very happy with these.

Good for winter walking

I use these to walk the dog when snow/ice is on the ground. They're a bit too aggressive when snow is melted and only a thin layer of ice is still there. If it was solid ice, these would be fine. But with the ice covering only about 50% of the roadway the the remainder clear I find myself looking for ice to walk on.

Excellent for Zion and SLC snow hikes

I bought these for a trip to Zion and ended up using them on Angel's landing and Red Pine Lake trail in Salt Lake City. Very happy with how easy they were to put on and take off as well as how well they served me on the trail. Not great for the parts where snow had melted and cement was exposed, but for paths were snow was packed down and traction was tough in shoes I felt confident about my grip with these. The little bag they come in is nice for storage. Make sure you look at sizes before you buy. I'm a ten in womens, and I got an XL. Worked great.

sturdy and far superior to less expensive options.

Here in Minnesota, I have a lot of experience with traction walking devices. These are so much better than the others! They are sturdy, don't slip off your boots as you are walking, and grab ice very well. I've had all sorts of others from the kind with coils to small spikes, and they don't come close to the chainsen in quality and keeping you from slipping. The expense is well worth it in terms of quality and effectiveness. Around here, one inattentive fall can equal a broken bone!

Great for ice and snow

First time using any types of spikes for hiking. Can say they made a huge difference. We briefly took them off to really see the change, and started sliding. Highly recommend.

Winter has been too warm to try these

With unseasonably warm temperatures, I have not had a chance to try these yet. They are definitely more robust than any previous traction aids I have used.
