Best! Clip ever!!
I’m so happy with this clip, that I’ve bought 2, one for each backpack that I use. The fact that you can go hiking or do street photography and have 2 hands free to eat or climb is the best! Is super secure and I’ve never had a problem with had been using one for 2 years now!
It goes everywhere I go
We travel by bicycle, by van, by car, by foot and my backpack or hydration pack has the Capture clip on it so I can carry my camera knowing it is safe, secure, and not dangling from my neck. I am always ready to capture a moment along the trails of life.
Amazing utility, even with big lenses
I cannot recommend these clips enough. I wear mine on my left backpack strap just below the nips and have to say they keep your camera accessible but locked in to place throughout your trip. There is a simple push button to release and slide the camera out that can also be turned 90degrees to lock. I've used these on 3-4 day backpacking trips in Yosemite and the Lost Coast and it allowed me to grab my camera in seconds and snap a quick shot and lock it back into place without adjusting my pack at all. Can handle big lenses too - had no issues with my 100-400mm zoom. (just be sure you test out a configuration that works for you before a long trek).
Like many PD products, suboptimal
I bought this clip just before a trip to Iceland to use it for hiking with my Sony A7RIV. It's more convenient than carrying a camera swinging from your neck or stuck in the bottom of your pack, but it was difficult to get the camera in and out - certainly not as easy as it appears in PD´s marketing videos. The thumb screws constantly came loose, no matter how tightly I would tighten them, and within a few days one fell off while I was traveling. Fortunately, this was not while I had nothing attached to the clip, so at least my camera didn't fall out, but still... I had to replace it with a hex bolt from another PD product since I didn't have the hex bolts for this product with me - it never occurred to me that the thumb screws would be so flimsy. Also, the finish began to be scraped off the clip almost immediately: The attached photos are after less than ONE WEEK of use! And as you can see, they scratched the bottom of my nearly new (1 mo). Finally, the clip does not attach very well to my non-PD camera backpack. They claim it's universal, but I'm not sure it works on non-PD products. I filed a warranty claim requesting new thumb screws and hex bolts, but given the cosmetic damage to my camera, I'm not sure I want to keep using this thing, and I'm not sure I would recommend it to others. Not nearly the miracle solution that PD is always trumpting with every product they sell. Too bad: The idea is a great one but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. But the performance definitely does NOT live up to the hype.
latch locked up during my hike Be very careful!
I was hiking and the latch mechanism started to get more difficult to lock-in. After a couple of times unlatching and latching while on my hike the latch locked up. I had to remove the clip from my backpack strap and hold the camera around my neck like before. I am still trying to unlatch the clip from the camera base to no avail. I am dubious to recommend.
Beautiful design and rock solid dependability
Bought the capture to reduce all the delays and fiddling usually needed to get shots of the family while skiing deep powder in Japan. Usually, the interruptions of doffing a bag and getting the camera out puts everyone off their flow. The Capture eliminated all that and most of the time my family didn’t even notice me stopping to take shots. Importantly, the Capture was rock solid. At first I was dubious that the device would be up for the task but after a couple of runs including a few old man tumbles in waist deep powder, I had complete confidence that the camera would be secure no matter what. Picture here is with an EM-1 Mk II and 12-40mm Pro, but I also had plenty of days with a 40-150mm Pro fitted and again had no qualms about its safety. Not a super heavy set-up with either lens, but I can imagine you’d get the same results with much heavier gear. Can’t recommend this highly enough.
Where have you been all my life?
The Capture system is an ingenious way to secure a camera not in use. It can be placed in so many different position eg different belt position or on a backpack strap and can be shifted very easily. Holds the camera very securely although my camera did slip off once while I was negotiating a slope when I bumped the release. I learned to always lock the release. I also found the thumbscrews loosen themselves slightly and while this has not caused any problem, I learned to check them every so often. Using the Capture plate with the excellent PD travel tripod adds layers of convenience.
high quality
I originally saw these on the trail in Alaska and wondered if they were solid and worth it. The answer is... they are. It seems pricey for a clip but it’s the real deal in terms of quality. It just works. It made of metal. It’s well designed. It’s worth the money if you want to hook your DSLR onto your backpack shoulder strap. I found this good when doing trails where I wanted to scramble and keep myself secure by not having a weight swinging around my neck as I used my hands to climb and balance. As I did what was close to rock climbing my mirrorless dslr was completely secure.
Excelent item
I bought this Capture Clip about a month ago and used it for every change I got, you can trust your camera with it. I mainly go hiking and take a camera with me, it is so convenient to use the camera with it, but at the same time have your hands free when you need to be careful where you walk.
Pretty Awesome Gadget, well worth the price, but..
I thought it was broken, but NOTE that the release lever has a LOCK position!! Mine was partially engaged, and was increasing difficult to load/release the camera, then completely stuck. I found that if you twist the release button, it goes into a lock position, and twist back and it releases. DOH. So watch for that! 3.5 lbs between camera and lens, no problem with the medium. Sony a7riii 24-70 2.8 gm.
