Alassian Insulated Vest
During the review period the Mid-Hudson region of NY experienced usually warm temperatures for late September. I traveled 200 miles northeast to Maine in search of cooler fall temperatures but Maine was also warm - in the mid 80's. I finally found cold temperatures (-11F) in a walk-in freezer. The vest was very warm even in sub zero temperatures, I was pleasantly warm while even while remaining sedentary. The vest allows good freedom of motion for working, or climbing. Once the temperature finally returned to seasonally normal, I wore the Alassian Vest in the cool mornings and found it equally at home in my local coffee shop or doing a little hiking in the Shawangunks.
Never thought we'd go climbing with a vest
I took the Alassin Insulated Vest out on a bouldering trip with some friends in Southern California. I nhad never climbed in a vest before but with the wind picking up it figured it was a good time to layer up. I got onto a classic boulder overlooking the valley below and when I got to the lip I realized I couldn't move. The vest actually was catching the lip and I had to maneuver myself another direction. I kept thinking "great a new best us about to get ripped and torn on granite...I just got this thing. " to my surprise when I topped out there wasn't a scratch on the vest, it perplexed me as I know it was rubbing the rock. This durability definitely makes it outdoor worthy. Did I mention I was warm and comfortable the whole time? One note is given my slimmer build I may have opted for a small size to see if it fit more snug.
A good synthetic insulator, but heavy
This is a fully featured quilted/baffled vest. It has all the pockets, drawcords, and functional features you’re looking for, as well as the benefits of synthetic insulation. its water-resistant, and keeps you warm even when wet. But it is heavy. If weight is a factor for you at all, you’ll want to look elsewhere. Down, (if you’ll be staying dry) is magnitudes lighter, but there are lighter synthetics on the market as well. The fit is a little big and square-ish for me, but I prefer a fitted vest, so this may not be an issue for you. Marmot quality is top notch. Excellent materials and assembly. I haven’t had it long enough to tell for sure, but I’m sure this vest will last a long time.
Poor Quality
Wore for two winter seasons washed it once. The material on the lower front right has worn off already and is not covered by the warranty.

Lightweight warmth without the bulk
Great warmth and has a long length for a longer torso. Deep pockets but chest and interior pockets would be a nice addition. Unlike a bulkier down vest, the Marmot featherless is warm but doesn't feel like you're wearing a Type 1 PFD.
Exceeded My Expectations
I am a down person only. No substitutes. I took a chance on manufactured down, because it was Marmot. Very impressed. I like it as well or better than down. Similarly light. Does not feel 'puffy'. Takes water / moisture better than down. It might not stuff quite as tightly as down, but this is not a factor for me. I use hiking and working around the farm, where compression to a ball doesn't matter. The piece itself is another example of Marmot design excellence. Fit is to size. Does not pull or bunch. This vest is all around EXCELLENT!

High Performing, Comfy Outwear
I really like this vest for outdoor activity in the cold. I personally prefer a heavier vest over a lighter jacket, so this product hits the nail on the head for me. Buy If: - you like high quality build and attention to detail - you want something fluffy and warm - you like your vest to shed rain and stay warm when wet - you're backpacking and appreciate a free layer of padding under your pack that down can not offer - like soft, lined hand warmers/pockets Sell if: - you want a slim cut - you need vest that is super packable
Very well made and warm!
This is a great vest! The vest is very warm and so well made. The vest is much heavier and thicker than many of the commonly seen 'nano' puff vests that are super thin. I would estimate that the paddiing on the vest is at least 3/4" thick. My waist size is right between the S and M. I originally ordered a M, and felt that the vest was a little too bulky and box shaped. I exchanged for the small size, which has a much more fitted shape. The overall construction of the vest is very high quality. The pocket interiors are soft and warm. The stitching is very well done, the zipper pulls have plastic coating, and the zippers seem high quality. Further, there is an adjustable elastic band in the waist that is nice for adjusting the fit. The outer material is very water repellent and since the vest is filled with synthetic fill vs. down it still works well even if the vest gets soaked. Highly recommended to anyone who is looking for a warm, high quality vest!
Great Vest for Fall
I have owned a few vests over the past couple of years and have to say this ranks up there as one of my favorite. The fit is more streamlined and on the snug-side (I wear a Large and received a Large) which I like because it hugs your body more than a giant puffy vest and keeps me nice and warm wearing just a long sleeve T-Shirt and shorts. In terms of weight, it seems to be on-par with other (normal) down filled vests out there. It's not the lightest vest I have ever owned, but it is also not the heaviest. The design is pretty normal compared to other vests. I like the fact that the insulation chambers holding the insulation are longer rectangles (compared to other vests that have shorter squares). I don't feel like I am wearing a quilt. I would have preferred that the neck area was fleece lined rather than the nylon that the rest of the vest is constructed of, but it's not a deal-breaker. I received Slate Grey which is a nice alternative to a deep black. One of the best features, however, is the resistance to rain. I got caught in an unexpected rain shower while walking my dog and the vest performed very well. The water just seemed to bead up on the shell and roll off. That combined with the fleece lined pockets, I was nice and toasty the entire time we were outside. The vest also seemed to dry pretty fast after a quick shake-off of the water. One thing that I wish was included is interior pockets. It would have been nice for Marmot to include a small fleece lined pocket for sunglasses. Overall I feel this is a great option for fall-to-early winter weather
Marmot men's Alassian Insulated Vest
Excellent vest. I got a lot of compliments on its appearance. Very nice fitted cut, bright but not loud color, very nice stitching, collar and zipper. Good temperature control. Very well thought out.
