Scott really nailed this one on the head! If you are sick of marshmallows or flippers on your feet then give this shoe a try. It's sleek, fast, and extremely protective on rocky, technical terrain... Very reminiscent of my beloved Peregrine 4s. Enough wiggle room for toes, hugging midfoot, and great heal lockdown. Zero durability issues, unlike others I guess (try and not kick rocks, but instead lift legs). No mesh splitting, owing to the tougher material used (take that Altra/Hoka!). Traction/tread is amazing and surprisingly versatile, but has of course worn (not unusual for any brand around 200 miles). I'm sure I'll get another 200 before all the tread is gone. As with all Scott's, size up .5. Happy running!
I bought this shoe not once but twice and both time the toe tore off. The fist time it was on my very first trail run. The second time it was a month into the replacement shoe. While the shoe is functionally great it is not nearly tough enough for real trail running.
200+ miles on rocky PA trails and in TN mud. My previous five pairs of shoes were Salomons until these. The upper and outsole is more durable than Salomon SLABs and comparable to Speedcross 3s. Traction is slightly less than the Speedcross and Fellcross in the mud and slightly better on wet rock. Protection from rocks is better than the Fellcross and Sense but slightly less than the Speedcross. The main advantage of these vis a vis the Salomon offerings is less drop and a more rockered sole which makes them more stable while descending and they have a smoother heel to to transition when you are looking to kick up the RPMs on flat ground and run with a more road-like stride.
After 85 miles the upper material and TPU overlay at the junction with the sole folded inward toward my foot. When the shoe flexed this pushed the relatively stiff upper material into my foot and I ended up with a significant blister. The lighter weight upper material is worn thin from the flexing and the harder material is permanently pushed inward. This is a design flaw: the TPU is aligned just forward of the flex point of the outsole. An offset of 10mm would significantly decrease the likelihood of this occurring.
It's often hard to put on this shoe because the insole is so grippy, it makes my foot feel very weird. I've gotten the beginnings if a blister on the bottom of my foot, somewhere I've never gotten blisters before (likely due to the material the insole is made out of). Other than that I dig the shoes, they are very grippy on a variety of surfaces and they do well in the mud (why I bought them to begin with). I think these shoes have potential, they just need to work on a few things.
Supertrac lives up to the name - great traction on loose or wet rocks/dirt. The feel is snug and fast- my go to for up tempo trail runs. Soft, but not squishy - I feel the trail just enough. I wouldn't do long runs on pavement with these, but otherwise am ery happy with them. I've had them for 4 months and have had no issues with them breaking down.
