Perhaps a good day hike bag, not good as a bookbag
I bought this for multi-use, but it does not have a large enough compartment for books. You might be able to stuff a sweatshirt in it, but that's about it. There is a flap of fabric splitting the bottom half of the inner compartment from the top. It closes with velcro. The way it is sewn you cannot open the compartment up to be one larger size. I will likely return this to find one that better fits my needs. If I had intended to use it strictly for day hikes, I'd probably keep it. The smaller compartment had a lot of individual storage sections. The aesthetics are great. Just not the right bag for me.
