Keeps Me Steezy

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought these pants about a year ago and I am happy with them. I mostly use them for Backcountry ski touring and they hold up. I love the waist pocket to keep my avy beacon in. They've kept me pretty dry in some wet conditions. I would give them 5 stars, but I wish the w pant would have a drop seat on the back. I usually have my bib straps buried under layers, and it's hard to take everything up top off for a quick tree pee. I also wish the size vents went to the ground to be able to put them on/take them off over boats for hot tours

Great bib...BUT...

Maybe I'm missing something but it seems to me that there's some serious durability issues surrounding the cuffs of the Alpha SV bib? The in-step reinforcement is inadequate to prevent micro cuts from sharp metal ski edges during jump turns in steep terrain. In my opinion, it needs to extend higher. The lightweight Goretex shell needn't extend over areas otherwise covering a plastic ski/mountaineering boot. I would apply the same logic to the inside of these high wear/stress areas including the built-in gaiter and the Goretex shell outside of the gaiter. These areas needn't be breathable because, more often than not, they're over a non-breathable boot so why not reinforce them with non-breathable, durable alternatives?

Awesome pants for skiing and climbing

Have used these pants for a few years now and like the material update on the Alpha SV Bib pants/jacket that happened 2-3 years ago; it made skiing and hiking much quieter. I love the fit of these pants and the versatility of the pockets, side zips, and relief zip. I don't think a company could've invented a better pair of technical climbing pants. As a historical note, I am glad that these pants don't come with the slot for knee pads like the earlier versions of this pant -- I found the built-in slot for knee padding unnecessary and uncomfortable because the knee padding made the area around the knees poorly breathable.

Bomb proof bibbed pants!

I bought these pants last fall. I do a pile of powder skiing - as well as a bit of alpine touring. I like to crush it in the trees, and although these pants aren't reccomended specifically for alpine skiing - they stand up to whatever I can throw at them. I've had multiple brushes with subalpine fir - and the legs on these pants are still intact! They are super warm, I ski often in minus 10-15C - and I only need a base layer or two even when it's cold. The padded knees are overkill for alpine skiing, but overall these bibs rip! They even have a front fly for when you're over-hydrating, if you catch me drift! Spendy pants, but super durable, and I'm confident they will last!

Not as good as their old ones

There are a few things that don't make sense with this pant a) No powder gator- there is a real chance you will walk in deep snow at some point in time. My old SV pants had a gator that kept the snow out of my boots. Why get rid of this? b) zipper fly- the old pants (they were 17 years old) had a fly zipper that zipped up as well as down. This was great, as if you were in a harness or long coat your could still unzip easily to answer nature's call They seem to fit a bit small, and I I am going to have to see if I can make these work. Sizing is not as big a deal though

TOP for Iceclimbing, well for Touring/Freeriding

Finally after three years i decided to buy these Pants. I would prefer a bigger colorrange, like yellow, red oder orange. But black is also good. First i use the Alpha SV for Iceclimbing. The fall was very wet, not me. i was try like a desert. ;-) The pants fits perfect with Mountainboots. Just with my freerideboots its a little bit tight arround the ankle. A Expanding gusset like the Alhpa comp or something like that would be great... but wait... these are climbing pants. so this is unnecessary, for me.

Best investment ever

I have had these bibs for 10-12 years and I ski about 50 days a year in them both backcountry and on the mountain. They fit me perfectly (6'3" 180# in a medium tall). I would consider myself to be very thrifty but I will spend money on gear I expect to last a decade of pretty heavy use. These look like I will get 20 years out of them. They carry a pack in perfect comfort as there are no additional seams along the hipbelt area. The through the crotch zipper has saved me from disaster when nature calls unexpectedly and with the urgency of a natural disaster. And the high chest pockets keep your essentials warm and organized. The leg zippers help with ventilation when the skin track gets steep and hot. I used to freeze skiing on the continental divide and now feel very cozy and dry.

Excellent product with no cons

it's the second ice season that i have been using this garment and i must say i cannot find any cons. from the moment you put it on you can forget this bib: it's really impressive how the design fit your legs and your torso. Under a shell, during ice climbing sessions you feel all the time comfortable, dry and light. I appreciate so much this garment that i'm tempted to buy another one just in case they, please don't, shoud decide to stop production. Great job Arcteryx, once more!!!

Alpha SV Bib Rocks

The quality is outstanding in these bibs. Feature rich, but not overboard or awkward. I appreciate the zipper system as this allows full access to your legs and torso if there is an emergency (bathroom or medical) or you need to dig something out of a pocket from a lower layer. It’s all pretty easy to use. Something noone has mentioned is that the torso part of the bib can be folded in on its self making these makeshift pants if you do not require the full bib. Give it a try.

So far so good!

I used them two time since I bought them. They feel very comfortable and the adjustments are perfect. I use them for Nordic Ski and alpine touring. The bottom leg zipper is difficult to open and close since the inner tissu get stuck in it if you’re not gentle with it. I think I’ll get used to those bib and will love it.
