Perfect for bike commuting

I bought this three weeks ago and have used it for bike commuting to work in Minneapolis five times now. While there is more than enough room if you expand the sides, I haven't found the need to yet. I keep some small things in the pannier pockets without unfolding them then roll up my pants and polo and put them in the main pocket with my socks and belt. I decided to keep a pair of shoes at the office just to save space, but could easily fit them if I used the panniers. There's enough room inside for a small rain jacket or for putting my vest inside after wearing it in on a cool morning too. I'm very happy with the purchase and would recommend it to anyone else. It's worlds better than wearing a backpack by the way - no more sweaty back!

Main zipper fails

Within two season the zipper to the main compartment failed (teeth won't join). There is no alternative way to close the main compartment so this poor quality zipper makes the rest of the design worthless. Neither the retailer nor the manufacturer can replace the zipper. Additionally, the rack which we bought with the bag has a track to accept the Topeak bag but this track will not accept other bags. Therefore, paradoxically we have to buy a new Topeak bag with the same poor quality zipper to avoid having to replace the rack as well.

Functional Bag - Pain to Get On and Off the Bike

I really wanted to love the MTX system but I find it a bit frustrating. Getting the bracket on the bottom of the trunk to line up properly with the MTX track/rack is not easy, especially when the bag is heavy with stuff in it. Sliding it off the rack is a pain as well. If you never take the bag off the bike I guess this is not an issue but it seems the whole point of the MTX line is easy on / easy off. The trunk itself is well designed and functional. Having the option to expand the side pockets into paniers is both handy and works well. If I could rewind, I would not pay extra for the MTX version and would opt for a standard rack with a spring restraint and the non-MTX version of this bag.

Perfect bag for my needs

Love this bag! I bought this and the Topeak Explorer MTX Tubular Rack for my electric bike. Now I have all the room I could need. When I grab groceries, I expand both side pannier bags and stuff them full. It’s amazing how much room there is.

Excellent paired with Topeak MTX rack

Lots of storage capacity. Quick on and off MTX mounting makes it great for running errands. Lock up the bike, slide the bag off and take it with you. Couldn't be more satisfied.

Great except for zippers

I'm on my 2nd trunk bag in 15 years (or so) and I love the convenience of easy on/off as this helps with commuting and taking my bag with me. The big problem - zippers. They fail and although there are two zippers so you can keep going with one zipper for a while, they will both fail at some point. I'm pondering whether to purchase a third time but feel like another option may be better. What is strange to me is the manufacturer has known about this issue for years and the design to me seems identical. I know good quality zippers cost more, but some of us would be willing to pay for something that will last a long time.

Very useful Trunk Bag

This is really a great little trunk bag. Used it today to go shopping at the grocery store. The two saddle bags carried the groceries I purchased.

this bag changed my life.

This bag (and the Topek system made cycle commuting a breeze. Bring your work clothes in the zip out panniers, then leave them at work and close up the panniers and go home. Also if I am out and about and decide to stop at the grocery store I can bring home 2 large bags of groceries without having panniers hanging out all the time. Also great for day touring- you can hold a ton of food/gear/layers. One of the best gear designs I have ever used. Plus with the easy on/off Topeak system you can fill it up inside then slip it on your rack. No fussing with Velcro ties. I keep it on my desk with my rooms and tube kit and throw everything else I need before heading out.

I love it !

I'm primarily a hiker and am used to a well thought out kit and the 22L capacity worked very well coupled with my handlebar bag. June of 2019 I bikepacked on and mostly off road during The Great Cycle Challenge for Children's Cancer Research a distance of 352 miles through days of thunderstorms and enough mud to stop up my gearset constantly. Coupled with the Topeak rain cover mine performed flawlessly. No zipper problems, no track problems and if you're not carrying the kitchen sink I really recommend the convenience and versatility of this bag.

Awesome - We’ll Designed Bag

This bag is just what I was looking for - a small footprint with the ability to expand via side pouches. There are (2) versions of the bag - one using the track system and a second, newer version which attaches via Velcro bands. My previous bag was the Velcro attachment method and it was a hassle to set up. I purchased the add-on track accessory available by Topeak - but not available at REI, too bad. They really should round out their assortment with this item which would give buyers the option of maintaining their existing rack.
