Nice construction, TERRIBLE design, no instruction
The basic bottle is what you'd expect from a water bottle, but the design is actually pretty stupid-----the 'nozzle' is recessed close to an inch and is about 1/2" in diameter. This means your water bottle nozzle can collect a good load of road dirt, goose droppings, etc. which will all be handily dispensed into your thirsty mouth with the first squeeze of water! :S A 'plain, old-fashioned' water bottle is covered or at least does NOT have a gaping pit to collect road debris which cannot be removed neatly or cleanly without wasting water!!
Great design
I love this bottle. It just works. Other reviews talk about the valve lock being hard to use. The product needs better documentation. You don't ever need to lock the valve. The lock isn't intended to be used while on the bike. It is only used if you are carrying the bottle full of liquid in your luggage/bag (which I never do). On the bike, you leave the valve open all of the time. Just squeeze the bottle, and you get lots of water. The self-closing valve does not leak at all. A great design.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it
This iteration of the Podium water bottle is so terrible compared to the previous version that it motivated me to write a review. Disassembling the lid in order to clean is a feat of strength. Once disassembled, the parts are easy to lose. "Unlocking" the nozzle to drink out of the water bottle is so finicky, half the time I unlock it, I unscrew the lid itself. The flow of water isn't nearly what it was with the original. Camelbak took a great design and ruined it.
Hard to twist open
The new top is hard to twist one handed to the open and closed position while on my bike. I have to pull it out of the cage to hold the cap in place to twist it open. If I just try to open the valve one handed, the whole lid opens, the valve stays closed, and my sticky sports nutrition ends up all over. Otherwise, yes, easier to clean than older versions, and I don't have residual scent / taste from previous use.
I am okay with the cap design
I don’t believe that this “locking cap” feature is the most convenient but it’s also not that terrible. If you have been riding for a while, rotating the cap to drink won’t be super technical. You can also just leave it open for quick sips while climbing and water won’t fly out. I do like though that it’s leak resistant when I transport it in the car.
No leak, no smell!
This is my first bike bottle that has no bad smell and I absolutely love it, can't imagine using other bottles now. The anti-leak mechanism is simple and works perfectly. I had no problems with cleaning. The Fiery Red color variant looks amazing in my opinion. Only drawback are scratch marks from constant use.
Totally baffling design good for no purpose
The nozzle fills up with filth. The bottle has four parts that are annoying to clean and easy to break or lose. Opening the valve turns the cap in the same direction of rotation as removing the cap altogether, which is what happens instead, most of the time. Can't be opened with one hand, or with your teeth.
Ok for cycling
Bottle is ok. Cleans inside ok. Doesn’t seem better than other versions. Swing lid opener is just ok. Wish they made larger size.
Cheap but quality
It's a water bottle, but the locking top to prevent leaking had already come in handy. Good value all in all.
Worth buying
I just bought it for hiking, and it’s pretty good. Worth buying!
