Have you ever wanted to give snowshoeing or cross-country skiing a try? Here’s your opportunity to do so for little to no cost.

This Saturday, January 12, is Winter Trails Day 2013, an annual event that involves nearly 100 resorts and Nordic centers nationwide. Event organizers—REI is one of the participants at the sites listed below—will be ready with the lessons and gear you need to get started. Last year, some 11,000 kids and adults took advantage of the event to enjoy a day of winter fun, in many cases, for free.

East

• Weston Ski Track: Weston, Mass.
