Entrance fees are waived at all national parks Jan. 15-17 in recognition of the holiday that honors civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. King, whose Atlanta birth home is a national historic site and one of 394 sites administered by the National Park Service, was born on Jan. 15, 1929.
While entrance fees are waived at parks from Yosemite to Yellowstone, other fees (such as camping, tours, concession, reservations) remain in place.
The National Park Service has created a special website to tell lesser-known stories about African American history in early American expansion and national parks. It's worth a look.
Entrance fees will next be waived April 16-24 to celebrate National Park Week.
