Ever picture yourself thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail? While it can be a pleasant daydream for many of us, the time commitment is pretty intense.
Well, no more. Thanks to this stop-motion video from Kevin Gallagher, you can experience much of the AT in around 5 whirlwind minutes. Sure, it’s an armchair adventure, but what a cool video!
Some AT fun facts:
- The trail was completed in 1937.
- It’s the nation’s longest marked footpath: 2,181 miles.
- Lowest elevation: 124 feet, near Trailside Museum and Zoo at Bear Mountain, NY.
- Highest elevation: 6,625 feet on Clingmans Dome in Tennessee.
- More than 10,000 people have reported hiking the length of the trail.
- It takes about 5 million footsteps to walk the length of the trail.
