Video: Doing the AT in Less Than 5 Minutes

Ever picture yourself thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail? While it can be a pleasant daydream for many of us, the time commitment is pretty intense.

Well, no more. Thanks to this stop-motion video from Kevin Gallagher, you can experience much of the AT in around 5 whirlwind minutes. Sure, it’s an armchair adventure, but what a cool video!

Some AT fun facts:
- The trail was completed in 1937.
- It’s the nation’s longest marked footpath: 2,181 miles.
- Lowest elevation: 124 feet, near Trailside Museum and Zoo at Bear Mountain, NY.
- Highest elevation: 6,625 feet on Clingmans Dome in Tennessee.
- More than 10,000 people have reported hiking the length of the trail.
- It takes about 5 million footsteps to walk the length of the trail.

Awesome idea for a video! Be cool also if there was a dot on the east coast US map showing the video progress location. Thanks!

Nice! A few minutes can hardly do the AT justice. Making me think I need to do one for the Arizona Trail here, 800 miles. Guess it should only be 2 minutes long!

My 7 yr old told me that we should hike this trail. Awesome video and great inspiration to get out of the house!
