Today’s guest blogger, REI employee Ching Fu, recounts the soaring highs and chilly lows of her bike tour of the entire Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway last summer: It had been raining for 3 days straight, and I was ready to just be home. But I had to keep pedaling. The bitter cold rain was an unwelcome surprise, especially since it was July in the southeast... ...
Hats off (helmets, too) to everyone who is pedaling to work this week. May is National Bike Month, this week (May 14-18) is Bike to Work Week and, if you still need an excuse to jump in the saddle, Friday, May 18, is Bike to Work Day. The benefits of riding to work are fairly obvious. Chief among them: No gasoline is involved, you get some exercise and the whole trip feels like a mini-adventure. REI product manager Mark Harding says bike sales at the co-op are steady and strong, though he has yet to detect a ...

I’d put this off for years due to fears of getting stuck in them and toppling embarrassingly to the ground. Based on the large number of readers we get to the REI Expert Advice articles on how to choose cycling shoes and pedals, this appears to be a common concern. I am happy to report, however, that my fears were unfounded. While commuting to work during National Bike ...
