Ian Nicholson

Internationally Licensed Mountain Guide, Avalanche Instructor

Ian is a mountain guide licensed with the International Federation of Mountain Guides Association (IFMGA) and has been guiding around the world for more than 20 years. He currently works on the National Instructor Team with the American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA), helping to train the next generation of mountain guides. He's AMGA certified as an Alpine, Rock and Ski Guide. Ian has also taught nearly 200 professional and recreational level avalanche courses as both a Pro Instructor and Instructor Trainer with the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE). He spent five seasons working as a professional observer with the Northwest Avalanche Center (NWAC). In addition, he has authored several books, including "Washington Pass Climbing" guide book by SUPERTOPO, "Climbing Self-Rescue: Essential Skills, Technical Tips & Improvised Solutions" and "Glacier Climbing and Crevasse Rescue: Essential Skills for Snow Travel." Ian lives in Seattle with his wife and two children.
