Munching on cardboard-inspired energy bars that turn into glue the more you chew them gets old fast. So do plain almonds. We’re helping you level up your snack game with trail mix recipes that turn a casual snack on a walk into a mouth party on a mountain. All you need are a few simple ingredients, an oven and a little patience.
Cajun Trail Mix
- 1⁄2 cup whole raw almonds
- 1⁄2 cup pecan halves
- 1⁄2 cup walnut halves
- 1⁄4 cup unsalted shelled sunflower seeds
- 1⁄4 cup unsalted shelled pumpkin seeds
- 1 tbsp. canola oil
- 1⁄4 tsp. salt
- 1⁄4 tsp. garlic powder
- 1⁄4 tsp. chili powder
- 1⁄4 tsp. cumin
- 1⁄4 tsp. cayenne pepper
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine all ingredients and stir to coat.
- Spread the nuts in a single layer on baking sheet and bake, stirring every 5 minutes, until toasted and fragrant, about 12 minutes.
- Cool and stir in an airtight container.
Tropical Trail Mix
- 1 cup cashews
- 1 cup macadamia nuts
- 1 cup dried pineapple tidbits
- 1 cup dried banana chips
- 1⁄2 cup goji berries
- 1⁄2 cup coconut flakes
- In a large bowl, combine all ingredients and stir.
Wasabi Soy Trail Mix
- 2 cups pretzels
- 1 & 1⁄2 cups chow mein noodles
- 1 cup wasabi peas
- 1 cup wasabi & soy sauce almonds
- 3 oz. crushed ramen noodles
- 3 tbsp. soy sauce
- 1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 tsp. garlic powder
- 1 tsp. onion powder
- Preheat oven to 250°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- On the parchment paper, combine pretzels, chow mein noodles and ramen noodles.
- In a small bowl, stir together soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder and onion powder.
- Pour the soy sauce mixture over the pretzel mixture and toss to coat.
- Bake in oven for about 30 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes.
- Once cooled, add wasabi peas and wasabi and soy sauce almonds and toss to combine.
