Celebrate Earth Month: Tree Planting with Friends of the Riverfront
Overview
Celebrate Almost Earth Day by giving back to the riverfronts. Join our partners at Friends of the Riverfront for a hands-on tree planting and stewardship event along the Three Rivers Heritage Trail, just steps from REI and the SouthSide Works. This unique stretch of trail weaves together urban energy and riverside calm, tracing the banks of the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio rivers where city history, wildlife habitat, and outdoor recreation intersect. Volunteers will plant native trees, clear brush, and help clean up litter, directly supporting healthier riverbanks and greener trails for runners, cyclists, paddlers, and everyday explorers. After the work is done, swing back by the store to celebrate with fellow volunteers and enjoy a special discount on new gear as a thank-you for pitching in. Friends of the Riverfront is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and restoring Pittsburgh’s riverfronts through trail development, environmental stewardship, and community partnerships. Since 1991, their team has helped transform legacy industrial riverbanks into vibrant public spaces that support recreation, conservation, and public health across the region.
