REI Co-op Membership

All eligible REI merchandise purchases posted between 1/1–12/31 earn a Co-op Member Reward, reduced by any items returned for refund or credit. If your reward has already been calculated, then the reward value is deducted from any returns. REI Co-op Members receive their Total REI Rewards notice via mail or email by March. 10% Co-op Member Reward is typical but not guaranteed. Your Co-op Member Reward is based on eligible net qualified merchandise purchases, which exclude the portion of the qualifying purchase(s) made with Promotional Reward and Promotional Checks, and the purchase of REI Outlet items, sale and clearance items, discounted items, gift cards, REI adventure travel, REI classes or day trips, Re/Supply used gear, service fees (e.g., rentals, labor, shop services), membership fee, postage, event passes/tickets and registrations, government agencies, REI Cooperative Action Fund donations, shipping charges, return labels, exchanges, sales tax. Good news: Keep in mind that many of these REI items still let you earn 5% back* in REI Co-op® Mastercard® Rewards when you buy them with your REI Co-op Mastercard (for details, see Membership Terms and Conditions). That includes gear that’s on sale, RE/Supply used gear, REI gift cards, and even donations to the REI Cooperative Action Fund.* You will earn 5% back in REI Co-op Mastercard Rewards on net purchases (purchases minus any credits or returns) made at REI retail locations and REI.com. Purchases include full-price and discount-price items, REI gift cards, services, fees and REI adventure travel-invoiced trip payments. You will also earn 5% back in REI Co-op Mastercard Rewards for donations made to the 501(c)(3) REI Cooperative Action Fund at REIfund.org or in-store at point-of-sale. Purchases made on promotional credit plans at REI do not qualify for rewards. 

Co-op Member Reward notices are sent out via mail or email by March for the prior calendar year. For example, the Co-op Member Reward you earn on purchases made in 2024 will be issued by March 2025 and expire on January 3, 2027. 

Active members who earned a Co-op Member Reward and/or REI Co-op Mastercard Rewards on eligible purchases during the previous year will receive a notice by March via mail, email, or via their REI.com membership account.  Please note that the determination of whether the Co-op Member Reward consists of a Patronage Dividend, a Promotional Reward, or a combination of both, will be determined by REI on an annual basis.

PLEASE NOTE:  2025 PROMOTIONAL REWARDS WILL EXPIRE ON FEBRUARY 27, 2027, ONE YEAR AFTER DATE OF ISSUANCE. REFER TO TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR MORE DETAILS.

You may request a retroactive Co-op Member Reward credit for eligible purchases online or by calling Senior Service at 1-800-426-4840 by December 31st for purchases made that calendar year; have your receipt handy as you’ll need it to provide information about your purchase. A Co-op Member Reward* may be credited to you for purchases you made within the current calendar year. However, your Rewards cannot be credited for purchases that occurred before you became an REI Co-op member. *

Your Total REI Rewards expire as follows:

• Co-op Member Reward:
• 2024 Co-op Member Reward expires on January 3, 2027, at 11:59pm PT.
• 2025 Co-op Member Reward expires on February 27, 2027, at 11:59pm PT. 
• REI Co-op Mastercard Rewards:
• REI Co-op Mastercard Rewards no longer expire for the life of the account.  For more details on REI Co-op Mastercard Rewards, visit REI.com/membership/mastercard.

You can shop at REI Co-op with your Total REI Rewards as soon as you receive notice of them. 

Notices go out in March to active members who earned the Co-op Member Reward on eligible purchases during the previous year. They’re valid through their respective listed expiration dates. 

REI Co-op® Mastercard® Rewards can be redeemed as they’re earned and are available for redemption when posted to your account (generally 1-2 business days after the purchase is posted), and do not expire..

• Shop at any REI store 

• Shop with the REI mobile app (download free from the App Store)

Patronage Dividends are issued in accordance with the Bylaws and can be redeemed at an REI store, REI.com, REI Outlet, or via the REI app unless otherwise indicated or determined by REI.

Promotional Rewards are issued in accordance with the REI Loyalty Program Terms and Conditions and cannot be exchanged for cash unless required by law.  Promotional Rewards can be redeemed at an REI store, REI.com, REI Outlet, or via the REI app unless otherwise indicated.
