From there, you’ll dive into the essential equipment to bring on every trip, what to do if you find yourself in trouble, and the best ways to make sure rescuers can quickly locate you when every minute counts. You’ll gain understanding of how different areas are best suited for different skill levels, from mellow beginner routes to more advanced paddling areas influenced by tides and boat traffic. The Coast Guard Auxiliary is a volunteer branch of the United States Coast Guard focused on educating the public and promoting safe recreation on the water.
