Paddle Smart: Essential Water Safety with the U S Coast Guard Auxiliary

Set yourself up for a safer, more confident paddling season with this in store presentation led by our local Coast Guard Auxiliary. Using real paddling accident and rescue examples, presenters will walk through what happened, what went right, and what could have made the situation safer from the start. From there, you’ll dive into the essential equipment to bring on every trip, what to do if you find yourself in trouble, and the best ways to make sure rescuers can quickly locate you when every minute counts. You’ll gain understanding of how different areas are best suited for different skill levels, from mellow beginner routes to more advanced paddling areas influenced by tides and boat traffic. The Coast Guard Auxiliary is a volunteer branch of the United States Coast Guard focused on educating the public and promoting safe recreation on the water. Their local members bring first hand knowledge of local waters and real world experience responding to on the water emergencies.
