Way Out Wild Presents: Wilderness Safety for Confident Outdoor Adventure

Ever wondered what actually matters when you’re out there and things don’t feel straightforward? This interactive class is designed to build confidence in how you think and make decisions outdoors. Rather than focusing on technical skills, the emphasis is on awareness, judgment, and understanding the factors that truly shape safety and experience in the outdoors. Through guided discussion and real-life scenarios, participants learn how to assess their environment, recognize risk early, and make more confident choices before and during time outside. The class explores how weather, terrain, energy levels, pace, and group dynamics influence decision-making over time. You’ll learn to use the Ten Essentials as a framework for thinking, not just a checklist, and to notice when something feels off and respond before small issues become bigger problems. This discussion-based format encourages reflection, questions, and shared learning, helping participants move through outdoor experiences with greater intention, confidence, and respect for their limits and surroundings. About the speaker: Way Out Wild is a women-led outdoor education and adventure organization focused on building confidence, safety, and connection in nature. Their instructors create supportive, inclusive learning environments that help people feel capable, prepared, and at home outdoors.
