Sharks 101: Understanding Florida’s Ocean Predators

Turn fear into fascination during this lively session designed to bring Florida’s sharks to life. Join us for vivid stories from the field, a behind-the-scenes look at how researchers perform shark workups and why those measurements matter, and practical tips for safe, respectful human-shark interactions. The program wraps up with hands-on biofacts—shark jaws, a full skeleton, real teeth with an ID guide, and textured shark skin to feel dermal denticles. We hope you'll leave curious, confident, and ready to protect the ocean’s top predators. Presented by Minorities in Shark Sciences (MISS), a nonprofit dedicated to creating funded opportunities for gender minorities of color in marine and shark sciences. Through camps, fellowships, and collaborative research programs, MISS works to remove financial barriers and build a more inclusive future in marine science.
