From sweeping shorelines to protected wetlands and coastal forests, Long Island is one of the most dynamic birding destinations in the Northeast. Its unique geography and diverse habitats create a natural crossroads for birds throughout the year, offering remarkable viewing opportunities in every season. Join us for an engaging in-store presentation that explores where and when to experience Long Island’s most memorable birdlife. You’ll learn where to spot brilliantly colored warblers and shorebirds during spring migration, seabirds along the coast in summer, and the awe-inspiring fall passage of hawks and other raptors funneling through the region. You’ll also discover how bird activity continues even in everyday spaces, from local parks to your own backyard, and how simply watching and listening can deepen your connection to the natural world. About our speaker: Shai Mitra is an ornithologist with nearly 50 years of experience studying birds in the Northeast and around the world. He is an Assistant Professor of Biology at the College of Staten Island and a longtime leader in bird research, conservation, and regional bird record keeping, including extensive work on Long Island.
