iNaturalist 101: Exploring Florida’s Wild Side

Learn how to turn everyday outdoor moments into real community science. You’ll get hands-on with the iNaturalist app as we explore the plants and animals that make Florida so special. In this interactive workshop, you’ll practice making observations, identifying species, and contributing to ongoing mapping and inventory projects that help scientists better understand Florida’s unique environment. Along the way, you’ll discover how many different animal and plant families call our local outdoors home and how your photos and notes can support conservation efforts. By the end of the session, you’ll have the skills to use iNaturalist confidently, a deeper connection to your local ecosystem, and the excitement to keep exploring and sharing your findings with the world. Please download the free iNaturalist app from your app store before arriving. This class is beginner-friendly and open to all experience levels. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. About our speaker: Sarah Davis is a 4-H Agent with UF/IFAS Extension Sarasota County, part of a statewide teaching and research organization focused on agriculture, natural resources, and community education.
