Outside Safe Space: National Film Tour & Conversation with Mikah Meyer

Join us for an unforgettable event celebrating adventure and belonging in outdoor spaces—hosted by our friend, partner, and acclaimed filmmaker Mikah Meyer. If you haven’t met Mikah yet, you’re in for a treat—he’s never met a stranger and brings humor, heart, and energy to every conversation. As an openly gay adventurer and advocate, Mikah uses storytelling and his Outside Safe Space initiative—gear you’ll find in all REI stores—to champion visibility and inclusion for LGBTQ+ communities in the outdoors. His work was included in the Banff World Tour and earned national recognition from The Today Show, Late Night with Seth Meyers, and Outside Magazine. Mikah also made history as the first person to visit all 419 U.S. National Park Service sites in a single journey—a feat that redefined what representation in adventure looks like. This special event features three short films followed by an interactive Q&A. Viewers will enjoy Mikah's award-winning film "Canyon Chorus" (16.5 min) which captures a transformative rafting trip shared by friends in Desolation Canyon and the true spirit of belonging; then, a short film about his 14-day 300+ mile ride across Oregon called "I am a Cyclist" (3.5 min) to prove biking is for everyone; and finally, Mikah’s latest release "Miss Adventure" (18 min) chronicling his Run Across Mississippi for LGBTQ+ visibility—exclusive to REI events!
