Step into the story of a route that links the Atlantic seaboard from the rocky coasts of Maine to the sunlit shores of Florida. The East Coast Greenway threads together iconic cities, quiet coastal marshes and barrier islands, and everyday neighborhoods—turning a 3,000-mile vision into a safer, more connected way to move by bike and on foot. Close to home, Charleston County is emerging as a key piece of that journey, where historic streets, tidal rivers and Lowcountry landscapes shape how people ride, walk and connect. Join us for a clear, engaging look at how the Greenway is coming to life in the Southeast. You’ll get a big-picture overview of the national route, learn what’s underway across Charleston County to expand protected paths and close gaps, and discover how community voices help turn plans into pavement. Whether you’re a daily commuter, weekend rider or simply curious about better ways to get around, you’ll leave with a deeper understanding of the work behind connected trails—and practical ways to support it. About our speaker: Jim Hemphill is the Southeast Manager for the East Coast Greenway Alliance, based in Charleston, South Carolina. He works across South Carolina, Georgia and Florida to advance trail development, support local partners and engage volunteers in building a safer, connected network.
