Climbing Kilimanjaro is a bucket-list adventure, but having the right gear can make or break your summit success. We'll cover everything you need to know about layering, footwear, packs, and essential accessories for tackling the mountain's five climate zones. Whether you're actively planning your climb or just dreaming of the adventure, this session will help you prepare with confidence.

Presented by Brooke Barber, an experienced adventure traveler and founder of Authentica Travel. Specializing in high-altitude trekking, scuba diving, gear knowledge, expedition preparedness, and logistics, she has successfully led numerous groups on challenging treks, including the Inca Trail. Brooke brings a wealth of knowledge on gear, training, and acclimatization. Passionate about helping others push their limits, she ensures every traveler is well-prepared for their adventure. With her expertise and enthusiasm, Brooke empowers climbers to confidently embrace adventure travel. This session can also be taught by Heidi Brockhaus “Heidi is a travel enthusiast who loves exploring new places with intention, humility, compassion, and curiosity. Her favorite outdoor activities include backpacking, rock climbing, hiking, and birdwatching. She currently hosts Authentica Travel & Dive’s annual trip to Tanzania: Mt. Kilimanjaro and Safari Adventures.” While this presentation is free to attend, we encourage donations towards our REI Cooperative Action fund (recommended 5.00 per person).
