Way Out Wild Presents: The Confident Camper, Mastering Your Outdoor Gear

11:00am2:30pm PDT

Overview

Ready to stop second-guessing your gear and start making confident decisions outside? Join Way Out Wild for a hands-on, interactive workshop that helps you understand how your gear works together as a system. This three-hour experience focuses on building confidence in how you think about gear so you can make choices that support your comfort, safety, and overall experience outdoors. Instead of teaching how to use individual items, this workshop looks at how gear systems interact and the tradeoffs that come with them. You’ll explore core systems including shelter, sleep, cooking, layering, and storage, and examine how comfort, weight, simplicity, and accessibility influence each decision. Through real-world examples and guided discussion, you’ll learn to recognize common pitfalls, navigate tradeoffs like comfort versus weight, and select gear that aligns with your personal needs, goals, and the type of trip you’re planning. About our speaker: Way Out Wild is a women-led outdoor education organization dedicated to building confidence, safety, and connection in the outdoors through inclusive, hands-on learning. Their instructors bring practical experience and a supportive teaching style that helps participants feel capable and ready for their next adventure, leading to more time outside.
