Workout, Stay Fit and Have Fun with REI
Co-op uses nature to combat workout fatigue
Apr 24, 2013
SEATTLE – Workout routines should never be boring. This season REI inspires people to spice things up and stay fit with REI’s “Nature’s Gym,” new programming to build endurance, flexibility and strength. As a leader in outdoor education, REI Outdoor School instructors teach people of all fitness levels how to incorporate cardio, weights and stretching exercises into their routine by using body resistance and common elements found in nature.
In addition, REI and Merrell have teamed to offer Nature’s Gym Fun Day Events in select cities at REI stores to celebrate all the fun ways to get fit. Bring the entire family, enter to win great prizes, and be inspired with a day of free outdoor fitness activities including Merrell’s M-Connect shoe demos on the Zorb course, stand-up paddleboard classes, and many others. Visit https://www.rei.com/events to learn where interactive events are scheduled.
“Getting fit doesn’t have to only happen in a gym, and it doesn’t have to be expensive,” says Rebecca Bear, REI Outdoor Programs and Outreach Manager. “There are so many great structures around us such as logs, rocks, walls, steps and our own body weight, that can be used to make outdoor workout routines fun.”
Set a goal with your fitness this summer. Planning a summer backpacking trip is a great way to spend time with friends in nature. Whether it’s a pack, tent, sleeping bag, jacket, stove or solar-powered charging devices, REI has the latest in lightweight, comfortable, innovative products to help get most anyone into the backcountry.
Another fun way to get fit this season is to get on a bike and ride. With the latest in urban cycle gear, apparel and bicycles, riders can commute through town, meet friends and run errands all while looking good and being comfortable. New apparel from Novara combines technical fabrics, hidden reflective threads and fashionable designs, so people can feel good about leaving the car in the garage.
However you choose to get fit and stay active, REI is a great resource to introduce you to new activities and support you along the way so you can enjoy outdoor adventures all year.
