The bill represents an opportunity to harness the power of the outdoors to advance our national climate strategy.

REI Co-op applauds the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, the most significant investment in climate action in the history of the United States. This bill represents a historic opportunity to harness the power of the outdoors to advance our national climate strategy, enhance health and well-being in urban and rural communities alike, and ensure that future generations enjoy a healthy and vibrant planet.

We are especially excited to see the following investments that will directly benefit the outdoors:

  • $250 million to increase the resilience of National Parks and public lands
  • $250 million for ecosystem restoration and conservation
  • $5 billion towards forest conservation and urban tree planting
  • $2.6 billion for coastal restoration
  • $3 billion for traditionally underfunded communities to address pollution
  • $4 billion for drought programs and water conservation
  • $1.9 billion to the Neighborhood Access and Equity Grant Program to help communities heal from the negative impacts of highways through green spaces and active transportation
  • $30 billion for tax incentives for clean energy like wind and solar

Looking forward, we call on Congress to continue to pass legislation that will benefit future generations, including stronger incentives for utilities to transition to renewable energy.

Every one of us has a responsibility to work together to preserve the long-term health of our planet, and we look forward to continuing this important work with Congress.
