El Camino de Santiago, or “The Way of Saint James,” is a network of ancient pilgrimage routes leading to the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain, believed to be the resting place of Saint James. Many have walked these paths for centuries, seeking spiritual growth, cultural immersion, and personal transformation. Today, the Camino welcomes travelers from around the world who come for a variety of reasons—from adventure and reflection to connection and renewal. Curious about walking El Camino de Santiago but not sure where to begin? Join our partners for an inspiring and practical presentation on planning your first Camino adventure. From choosing your route to packing smart, managing travel logistics, and training for the trek, this session will help you turn your dream into a doable plan. No matter what motivates you to walk the path—make this your first step.
Notes
Presented by Brian and Michelle Coleman. Since 2006, we have traveled to almost all of the United States, Mexico, and Europe. We have camped in our tent, stayed in B&Bs, and booked hotels, and now we travel in our travel trailer named Casa del Camino (translation: Road House). We call her CC for short. We spend part of the year in Dayton, Ohio, working as teachers. When we’re not in the classroom, you can find us traveling. We’ve journeyed with students, friends, and family, but we mostly travel just the two of us. We have walked six Camino over four different routes. We have walked over 2,500 miles on Camino routes in Spain, Portugal, France, and Italy. We’ve learned the ins and outs of traveling with plenty of patience, research, trial and error, and listening to those who have come before us. We have backpacked parts of the Appalachian Trail and the North Country Trail, visited and hiked in more than 40 national parks, and completed some bike touring. We love discovering quaint towns worldwide, feel thrilled when we conquer a big city, and can’t get enough of our state and national parks.
