Join us for an inspiring presentation about the Arizona Trail Association’s Veteran Engagement & Trail Stewardship (VETS) Program—a nationally recognized initiative that empowers military veterans through trail work, outdoor adventure, and meaningful connection to public lands. Learn how veterans are building community, healing through nature, and helping to protect Arizona’s 800-mile National Scenic Trail. Whether you're a veteran, a military family member, or just a caring community member, this is a powerful opportunity to explore how trails can transform lives.
Notes
Michael “Chappy” Chappell is the Director of the Arizona Trail Association’s VETS Program, a U.S. Navy veteran, and a passionate advocate for nature-based healing and public lands stewardship. After deployments during Operation Iraqi Freedom, Chappy found solace on the trail and trained through the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS). Since then, he has dedicated his life to building community and purpose for fellow veterans through outdoor service. Under his leadership, the VETS Program has expanded trail access, launched large-scale mental health campaigns, and become a national model for veteran-led conservation. Chappy lives in Tucson with his family and leads trail crews across Arizona’s most remote landscapes.
