Ready to take your first steps into the backcountry? This session will introduce you to the essentials of outdoor gear for camping and beginner backpacking adventures. We’ll dive into the “big three” systems—shelter, sleep, and cooking—plus layering, footwear, and comfort strategies that make your time outside enjoyable and safe. You’ll get hands-on experience with real gear, practical buying and care tips, and sustainable practices that keep your adventures running smoothly. Whether you’re dreaming of your first overnight or just want to feel more confident outdoors, this session is fun, approachable, and designed to inspire. About our speaker: Niki Taylor represents the women-led team at Way Out Wild, an organization dedicated to creating inclusive, affordable, and educational outdoor programs. Their mission is to empower women and underrepresented communities in outdoor spaces through guided hikes, backcountry trips, and outdoor education. Way Out Wild prioritizes safety, accessibility, and connection—helping adventurers build confidence, well-being, and a lifelong relationship with nature.
