Discover Griffith Park: L.A.'s Hidden Hiking Treasure

Did you know Griffith Park boasts over 50 miles of official hiking trails—more than two full marathons worth? Nestled in the heart of Los Angeles, this vast urban wilderness offers a surprising escape into nature, history, and adventure. Join us for an engaging session hosted by Friends of Griffith Park to explore the park’s diverse trail system. We'll cover how to prepare for a day on the trails, route planning, recommended gear, and ways to get involved through volunteer work, citizen science, and stewardship programs. Whether you're new to hiking, a seasoned trail enthusiast, or simply someone who enjoys being in nature, this session offers something for everyone—including tips on joining local hiking groups and navigating transportation options to and from the park. This session is more than a trail talk—it’s an invitation to connect with nature, community, and the legacy of one of L.A.’s most beloved parks. About our presenter: Shawn Sites will lead this session on behalf of Friends of Griffith Park, a nonprofit dedicated to the long-term preservation and stewardship of the park. Shawn will present a visual overview of the most popular trails, share insights into the organization’s conservation efforts, and highlight opportunities to connect with the hiking community.
