Backorders & Preorders

REI will ship your item(s) as soon as we receive them in our warehouse. Please keep in mind that the arrival date is an estimated time frame and subject to change.

We cannot guarantee that a backorder will be filled. If the backordered item is no longer available, we will cancel the item from your order and notify you via e-mail.

Both backorder and preorder items automatically cancel if it takes REI more than 30 days to send them. We can extend that 30-day window if you call 1-800-426-4840 and ask us to.

We will not charge your credit card for either type of purchase until the item ships.

Do you offer free shipping?

There are two ways to get free shipping for your REI purchase. You can have your order shipped to your local store for in-store pickup, or you can get free U.S. Standard shipping on qualifying orders.

What does it mean if an item is on backorder?

If an item is not currently available, but we think we'll eventually get more inventory, you have the option to put that item on backorder. If the item becomes available we will ship it to you. Of course, we will not charge your credit card until the item ships.
