Protect Bears Ears National Monument

Bears Ears National Monument is a beloved cultural landscape and a cherished destination for people who find connection, inspiration and renewal outdoors. Its sandstone canyons support:

• Nearly 450,000 annual visitors to hike, rock climb, bike, camp and explore;
• More than 100,000 archaeological and cultural sites reflecting the rich heritage of Tribal Nations who call these lands home and
• The habitat for 18 endangered species

Management plans for iconic places like Bears Ears are how we ensure long-term landscape health, recreation access, cultural preservation and other aspects of public land use that are in the public’s interest. But this summer, the Trump Administration reduced the size of Bears Ears National Monument by 91%, without consulting the Tribal Nations who have worked for generations to protect its landscapes and have a co-management role with the federal government. Already, dozens of mining claims have been filed to extract uranium, copper and other metals from Bears Ears. Now, some members of Congress are working to completely erase any prospect of restoring the borders of Bears Ears or permanently undo its management plan. We can’t let that happen.
