Healthy forests make life outside possible.
They clean our air and water, store carbon, provide wildlife habitat, shade our neighborhoods and create the outdoor spaces where we hike, paddle, camp and connect with nature. But forests across the country face growing challenges, and they need support to remain healthy and resilient for generations to come.
Congress has an opportunity to support policies that help protect and restore forests, expand access to the benefits of trees and strengthen the workforce that cares for our public lands. These priorities can help communities thrive while ensuring our forests continue to provide the benefits people and wildlife depend on:
- Establishing the Forest Conservation Easement Program (FCEP), which would help conserve working forests and keep forest lands healthy and intact;
- Strengthening the Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP), which supports collaborative conservation and restoration efforts across forest landscapes;
- Supporting the Neighborhood Tree Act, which would help bring the benefits of shade and a healthy tree canopy to more communities, especially those facing extreme heat; and
- Providing robust funding for the U.S. Forest Service so the agency can hire and retain the people needed to restore, steward and care for our public lands.
Healthy forests are foundational to a healthy planet and strong communities.
