The Power of Cooperative Action
Grand Staircase‑Escalante National Monument is a place of wonder, history, and deep connection - with towering cliffs, slot canyons, and sweeping plateaus that invite adventure and reflection. Across 1.9 million acres in southern Utah, Grand Staircase-Escalante provides world‑class outdoor recreation and vast paleontological resources. Its landscapes hold profound cultural significance for the Southern Paiute, Pueblo and Ute Tribes who have stewarded its fragile and unique desert ecosystems for generations. Once damaged, these systems may never recover.
Recent efforts by some members of Congress to roll back the monument’s Resource Management Plan would have cut the monument’s size nearly in half, threatening wildlife habitat, recreation access, and the communities who depend on these landscapes. Thanks to all of you who took action with the Cooperative Action Network, the proposed effort to overturn the monument’s current management plan has lost its path forward in Congress—marking an important moment in the continued protection of Grand Staircase-Escalante.
This progress would not be possible without the leadership of Tribal Nations, local advocates and partners who have worked tirelessly to defend this place. And thanks to the thousands of you who raised your voice and took action—your support helped protect a landscape that means so much to so many.
