Protect the Boundary Waters

Tell Congress to stop mining in America's most visited wilderness area.

America's favorite wilderness

Each year, more than 155,000 visitors from around the globe come to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) to hike, camp, canoe and fish. With 1.1 million acres of pristine waters and old growth forests, the region is home to countless fish and wildlife species, more than 2,000 lakes and campsites and thousands of miles of canoe routes and hiking trails. It is also central to the cultures and economies of several Tribal Nations who have long-standing treaty rights to harvest rice, fish, hunt, and gather there.

This unparalleled region is under renewed threat from proposed sulfide-ore copper mining that would forever harm its waters, wildlife and neighboring communities. The House recently voted to overturn a 20-year mining ban in the watershed. The resolution now heads to the Senate where it needs a simple majority to pass. If it prevails, it would set an extremely dangerous precedent that would not only destroy protections for this iconic region, but open up other protected landscapes to new threats.

To protect this iconic region, we need to tell the Senate to vote NO on Joint Resolution 140. That's where you come in.

Join us in telling Congress to stop mining in the Boundary Waters today.
