Our trip begins early this morning in Las Vegas (Henderson), Nevada at our host hotel. Our guides will briefly talk us through the basics, ensuring everyone has all they need before we set out. Making our way deep into Utah on this three hour drive to Zion National Park, we'll take in the incredible scenery of the American Southwest. After our first lunch in Springdale, we head to the trailhead for the Watchman Trail to stretch our legs on an introductory hike in the park. This out-and-back trail offers a moderate hike with fantastic views of some of the most famous features in the park including West Temple and Towers of the Virgin. Following our hike we will spend a little time at the Zion Canyon Visitor Center which boasts an innovative Earth friendly design. Our first afternoon in the park will leave you breathless and ready to enjoy the comforts of our exclusive REI Signature Camp. Our guides and camp host will provide a camp orientation and then, while we get situated in our comfortable tents, put the finishing touches on an al fresco dinner before our sweet cravings are satisfied with a delectable dessert. Lunch and dinner included.
Hiking: 2 miles; Elevation gain/loss: 456'. Optional side hikes may add additional mileage and will vary depending upon the group and conditions.
Wake to the song of canyon wrens and the smell of freshly brewed coffee as we have breakfast in camp. After breakfast, we drive an hour to embark on one of the most thrilling, famous, and not to be missed hikes in the Southwest, Angels Landing. Our hike begins on the canyon floor with a steady climb up a wide path. Entering Refrigerator Canyon we get a slight chance to cool off before we start the 21 switchbacks of Walters Wiggles. At Scouts Lookout we get our first view of the last thrilling 500' of our climb. Here the trail narrows with drop-offs on either side. We’re assisted by chains imbedded in the rock as we scramble up sandstone steps. Our final push brings us to the top with amazing views of Zion laid out below and beyond, making this challenging hike worth the effort. We then return to camp for a relaxing evening, complete with a farewell celebration dinner.
Hiking: 5 miles; Elevation gain/loss: 1,500'
After another hearty breakfast, we say goodbye to camp and shuttle to the Temple of Sinawava. From here, we embark upon our hike into The Narrows—a deep gash in the earth carved by the Virgin River. The first part of our hike walks along the Riverside Trail but after about a mile our trail is the Virgin River. Walking in water, we travel upstream along the steep, colorful sandstone walls on a route often described as one of the best hikes in the U.S. After exploring the spectacular Narrows, we return to our waiting van and begin the three-hour drive back to Las Vegas. We expect to arrive at the Las Vegas airport by approximately 5pm and our host hotel at 6pm, local time. Please do not schedule a departing flight prior to 8pm.
Hiking: 2.5 miles; Elevation gain/loss: 200’. We walk on trail for approximately one mile before entering The Narrows where we literally get our feet wet. We hike upstream 1.5 additional miles, gradually gaining approximately 100' before turning around and exiting the same route.
