Roof of Africa Trek (Kilimanjaro)

Climb the world’s tallest freestanding mountain

Join a group of adventure-hungry travelers on an eight-day journey up Mt Kilimanjaro. Following the Marangu Route – the oldest trail and the only one where you can sleep in mountain huts – you'll be well sheltered from the elements after long days of trekking through Tanzania’s alpine desert. With an expert guide for every two trekkers and a team of porters carrying most of your gear, our crew will keep you safe, sound and inspired every step of the way. All you have to do is focus on the climb as you thread through rainforests, cross rocky ravines and reach the 19,341-ft-tall summit of Africa's highest peak.

Why you'll love this trip

  • Sleep in mountain huts and spend a day acclimatizing at Horombo – with a side trip to Zebra Rocks and Mawenzi Hut – to give you the best chance of reaching the summit.
  • Trek with expert mountain guides (one for every two travelers) and a team of trained porters to carry the bulk of your gear, so you can climb with confidence and ease.
  • Take in Tanzania’s alpine scenery on Kilimanjaro’s oldest route, passing through grasslands, fields of giant cacti-looking plants and meadows framed by dramatic slopes.
  • Tackle the climactic final stretch to Uhuru Peak by lamplight and, weather permitting, watch the sunrise over icefields from behind Mt Kilimanjaro’s second-highest peak.
  • As an official partner with the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project, you can hike with peace of mind knowing that while our porters are taking care of you, there’s someone looking out for them.
