I have had this kayak for just over 1 year now, and it is without question the most versatile kayak ever. Some people may turn away from this kayak thinking that it can't be both a good paddle board and a good kayak, and it probably is just OK for each. That's what turned me away at first. But I finally just decided to go for it, and I can honestly say it is exceptionally good for both paddle boarding and kayaking. I have used many other types of kayaks and more traditional looking paddle boards. This kayak is the most stable kayak I've ever used, both when sitting down, and most importantly when standing. I have used it both on lakes and on slow moving rivers. Works great for both. Handles waves very nicely. Transitioning from sitting down to standing up is a little tricky at first, but after a few attempts it gets to be easy. The handles on the kayak help with standing quite a bit. Speed is great when sitting down and tracking is perfect. When standing, speed is maybe slightly reduced, but for the most part it is the same. Just as fast. And tracking is still perfect. When I take this kayak out I frequently change between sitting and standing depending on my mood. It also works for lying down and floating around, which you couldn't do on any other kayak. One reason why I prefer the nalu 12.5 to other more traditional paddle boards is the storage capacity. The front hatch had a large opening and allows access to the entire inside of the kayak, which is totally hollow. So storage is not a problem. The back bungees are also great. The other reason I prefer the nalu is because paddle boarding does not really work very well when it is windy out. Its alright if the wind is behind you, but trying to stand up and paddle into the wind is exhausting. For this kayak, the wind doens't miss with the tracking or anything, but your body just catches too much wind. So when it's windy I just sit down and paddle around. No problem. The weight of the kayak isn't too bad. I am able to carry it by myself using the handles that are attached to the kayak. It gets a little heavy over long distances, but for short distances it isn't a problem. Overall, I definitely would recommend this kayak. Take a chance. You won't regret it.
